Spartans Beat Monrovia, Blank Temple City

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team won its fourth consecutive game by beating visiting Monrovia, 5-3, in a Rio Hondo League game on Monday.
Sophomore Josh Proctor went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, senior Ethan Geller went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run, and senior Alex Higa went 2-for-4 with a run. Sophomore Cash Carroll, who walked and scored once, earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings with three strikeouts, one hit and one walk. Sophomore Leon Chen, who had a hit and a run, recorded four strikeouts in four innings. Junior Hayden Dancsecs walked twice and scored once, junior Tyler Gao walked twice and had an RBI, and senior Allen Kang walked once.
The Spartans picked up a 7-0 league victory at Temple City as sophomore Carson Kelly allowed four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over six scoreless innings to earn the win. Chen went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs, Higa went 2-for-4 with a run, and Proctor finished with a double and a run. Carroll pitched a scoreless inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts while Geller and Dancsecs each recorded a hit and two RBIs. Junior Justin Mccubbin tallied a hit, an RBI and a run while Gao finished with an RBI and a run.
LCHS (6-7 overall, 3-3 in league) will visit Monrovia Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth for a nonleague game on April 4.

The Wolves blew out host Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia, 12-1, in a Prep League game on Monday. Senior captain Max Brunngraber, who went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, a run and a walk, allowed one unearned run on two hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts in a complete game effort.
Sophomore Brian Xu went 2-for-3 with a double, four runs, two RBIs, two walks and a stolen base while sophomore Will Koh went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run.
Sophomore Rowan Schaeffer recorded a hit, two walks, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run, junior George Hayes and sophomore Matthew Chino each tallied a hit and a run, and sophomore Calvin Chen finished with a hit and an RBI. Freshman Nathan Sanok registered two runs, two stolen bases and a walk, freshman Will Grable produced two RBIs, and senior captain John Kully had a run and an RBI.
Flintridge Prep (8-5 overall, 3-2 in league) will host Rio Hondo Prep for a rematch on Friday, March 31, at 3:30 p.m. before opening a two-game set at Pasadena Poly on April 4.

The Golden Knights narrowly lost at Loyola High in Los Angeles, 3-2, in a Mission League game on Saturday as junior Holden Deitch went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and a run.
Junior Kalani Quiroz, who went 2-for-4 at the plate, allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks with one strikeout over four innings while junior Aaron Hernandez pitched a pair of scoreless innings with two hits and two walks. Sophomore Caleb Thatcher recorded a hit and a stolen base while sophomore Dane Shepard tallied a hit and a walk. Sophomore Jordan Lewallen walked and scored once, senior Lucas Dixon finished with two walks and junior Jordan Viramontes walked once.
SFHS lost at Loyola, 10-1, in a league game last Friday. Deitch recorded a hit, a stolen base and a walk, Thatcher tallied a hit and a walk, and senior Grant Valentine and Dixon each had a base hit. Junior Joe Krasnowski allowed two hits and one walk with one strikeout over 1.1 scoreless innings, junior John Calmette finished with two walks, a stolen base and a run, and Quiroz walked once.
The Golden Knights previously opened the season series with a narrow 4-3 victory over visiting Loyola. Thatcher, who walked and scored once, earned the win after sticking out five batters over four innings. Junior Lucas Favretto had two strikeouts over a pair of scoreless innings in relief while senior Xander Douglas had one strikeout in a scoreless inning of relief. Lewallen recorded a hit, two runs and a stolen base, Calmette finished with a hit and two RBIs, and junior Brody Ruyle produced a hit, an RBI and a walk. Quiroz tallied a hit and an RBI while Valentine walked and scored once.
St. Francis (9-8 overall, 6-6 in league) will finish a three-game set at Chaminade High
in West Hills on Friday, March 31, at 3:30 p.m. before hosting St. Bonaventure High of Ventura for a nonleague game on April 12.
