Local Softball Teams Resume League Play

The La Cañada High School varsity softball team competed in the Village Christian Spring Fling showcase last weekend and finished with a 1-1 record.
The Spartans edged Venice High of Los Angeles, 5-4, as junior Elle Leckrone, who had a hit, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base, tossed a complete game with five strikeouts to earn the win. Senior Kyra Davis went 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI while sophomore Grace Rocco went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Junior Mia Salardino recorded a base hit, freshman Laila Kazazian walked and scored once, freshman Ava Perry was credited with an RBI and sophomore Aubrey Wurm walked once.
LCHS lost their tournament opener against El Segundo, 5-3. Rocco, who went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, struck out one batter over three innings while Leckrone, who had a hit and a run, finished with a pair of strikeouts over three innings. Senior Riley Breckheimer recorded a hit, an RBI and a walk while junior Ashley Lovejoy tallied a hit, a stolen base and a run. Salardino was credited with an RBI while Perry walked once.
La Cañada (6-5 overall, 2-0 in league) will visit Monrovia for a league rematch Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before opening Duarte Tournament action against Charter Oak High of Covina this Saturday, April 1.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs competed in the 16th annual Torrey Invitational last week and finished with a 2-2 record.
The Tologs blanked Liberty Charter High of Lemon Grove, 4-0, in their tournament finale last Saturday. Sophomore Ava Nawrocki went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI while senior captain Charlotte Taylor recorded a hit, an RBI and a run. Junior Meaghan Coyle was credited with an RBI, senior Meghan Garrity walked and scored once, and senior Ellie McCarthy, senior Cameron Bender and freshman Juliette Smith each walked once.
FSHA defeated El Camino High of Oceanside, 6-4, as Coyle, who had a double at the plate, pitched a complete game with three strikeouts. Bender went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, Taylor went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run, and Nawrocki recorded a double and an RBI. Sophomore Gianna Candelora tallied a hit and a walk while junior Megan Milton and McCarthy each had an RBI. Senior captain Marie Milton scored two runs, Garrity walked and scored once, and senior Carly Crossland scored once.
The Tologs ended the first day of tournament action last Friday with a 7-4 loss against Sherwood High of Oregon. Megan Milton went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run while Marie Milton went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Taylor finished with a hit, a run and a walk, Garrity tallied a hit and a run, McCarthy produced a base hit, and senior Cassie Huston walked and scored once.
Flintridge Sacred Heart lost its tournament opener against Central High of El Centro, 5-2. Nawrocki went 1-for-3 with a double and a run while Marie Milton went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Huston allowed five runs (one earned) with two strikeouts, eight hits and one walk in a complete-game effort. Crossland walked and scored once.
The Tologs previously routed visiting Harvard-Westlake of Studio City, 17-0, in their Sunshine League opener as Coyle, who went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, pitched a complete game shutout with two strikeouts, two hits and two walks in five innings. Nawrocki went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs while Garrity went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs and a walk. Marie Milton went 2-for-3 with a double, four runs and three RBIs, Taylor went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, and McCarthy went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bender registered a hit and two RBIs while Huston tallied a hit and a walk. Crossland produced two RBIs, Megan Milton scored three runs and walked once, and junior Abigail Blea and Smith each scored once.
FSHA (9-3 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Marymount High of Los Angeles for a league game on Monday, April 17, at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Immaculate Heart High in Los Angeles on April 19.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves have been idle since posting a convincing 15-2 Prep League victory over visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick on March 17.
Flintridge Prep (6-3 overall, 3-1 in league) recently visited Providence High in Burbank for a league game but it ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline; the result will be included in next week’s issue. The Wolves will host South Pasadena for a nonleague game Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia on April 4.
