Spartans Beat Monrovia, Temple City in Matches

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated visiting Monrovia, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 25-12, in a Rio Hondo League match last Tuesday.
LCHS head coach Laura Browder said junior Parker Petroc had a terrific performance after racking up 19 kills, seven digs and three aces. Junior Jared Yang registered 23 assists and 11 digs while sophomore Quest Swan tallied 12 kills, two aces, two digs and one block. Senior Ethan Hsu finished with 12 assists, two kills and one dig while senior Wolf Voelker produced 16 digs, four assists and one ace. Senior Zach Evans recorded seven kills, two digs, one block and one assist while sophomore Jacob Que posted five kills, six digs, one ace and one assist. Freshman Albert Cho collected six digs and two aces while junior Mason O’Brien had two blocks.
The Spartans swept host Temple City, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19, in a league matchup last Thursday.
La Cañada competed in the San Gabriel Valley Tournament last weekend and finished with a 2-2 record. The Spartans defeated University Prep Value High of Los Angeles, 25-14, 25-9, and La Mirada, 25-15, 25-14, but lost to Diamond Ranch High of Pomona, 30-28, and West Covina, 25-18, 25-21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
LCHS (9-12 overall, 2-1 in league) will visit Flintridge Prep for a nonleague matchup Thursday at 4:40 p.m. before visiting Lakewood on March 31. The Spartans will resume league action at South Pasadena on April 11.

The Golden Knights defeated host Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta, 22-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-19, in a nonleague match last Saturday as senior captain Gabe Metcalf racked up 38 assists, 11 digs, two blocks, one kill and one ace.
Junior Titus Rodz registered 13 kills, seven digs and one assist, sophomore Ryan Bender produced 12 kills, six digs, one ace and one block, and junior Will Martinez finished with 11 kills, three blocks and one dig. Senior captain James Clapp recorded eight kills, four blocks and four digs while senior Blake Welsh tallied five kills, four blocks and four digs. Senior Trevor Shackleton finished with 14 digs and four assists, senior Aidan Joel Lopez collected five assists, five digs and one block, and senior Drew Miller had six digs and one ace.
SFHS picked up a 25-21, 22-25, 27-29, 25-20, 15-11 Mission League victory at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks last Thursday. Metcalf amassed 54 assists, five digs, three blocks and one ace while Rodz racked up 19 kills, 10 digs, three blocks, two aces and one assist. Welsh registered 13 kills, seven blocks and two assists, Martinez tallied 13 kills, five digs and two blocks, and Bender finished with 11 kills, six digs, four blocks, one ace and one assist. Clapp recorded five kills and five blocks, Shackleton produced 11 digs and three assists, and Lopez had two aces.
The Golden Knights recently won a league match at Alemany High in Mission Hills, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, as Metcalf racked up 38 assists, 13 digs, five blocks and four kills. Rodz finished with 13 kills, 11 digs,
four blocks and one assist, Welsh tallied 11 kills, five blocks, three digs and one assist, and senior Travis Brown registered 10 kills, eight digs, four assists and
one block. Martinez recorded nine kills, four blocks and one dig, Bender produced five
kills, four digs, one block and one assist, and Shackleton collected 16 digs and four assists. Clapp posted seven digs, five blocks, two kills, one ace and one assist while Lopez had two digs.
St. Francis previously swept visiting Westlake High of Westlake Village, 25-15, 25-7, 25-21, as Rodz registered 11 kills, five digs, two aces and one block. Bender tallied nine kills, five digs and one block, Clapp produced seven kills and one block, and Brown recorded six kills, seven digs and three aces. Martinez finished with four kills and one dig while Welsh collected four kills and one block. Metcalf racked up 20 assists, three digs and one kill while Lopez posted 17 assists, one kill and one dig. Shackleton had six digs and three aces while Miller notched four digs. Sophomore Matt Polenzani had one kill, one ace and one dig while senior Nick Ferry had one ace.
SFHS (21-5 overall, 4-0 in league) will host Pasadena for a nonleague match Thursday at 6 p.m. before visiting Oak Park on April 11.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves have been idle since sweeping visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick, 25-8, 25-8, 25-9, in a Prep League match on March 15.
Flintridge Prep (7-5 overall, 3-1 in league) will host La Cañada for a nonleague match Thursday at 4:30 p.m. before visiting St. Genevieve High in Panorama City on March 31. The Wolves will resume league action by visiting Providence High in Burbank on April 4.
