LCHS, Flintridge Prep Drop League Matches

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team was swept at South Pasadena, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19, in a Rio Hondo League match last Tuesday.
Junior Jared Yang registered nine assists and four digs, junior Parker Petroc tallied eight kills, three digs and one ace, and sophomore Jacob Que recorded nine digs and one kill. Junior Zach Evans produced six kills and two blocks while sophomore Quest Swan finished with three kills, one block and one ace. Senior Wolf Voelker made five digs, freshman Albert Cho was credited with four assists, and senior Ethan Hsu had three assists, one block and one kill.
The Spartans were swept at Monrovia, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21, in a league match last Thursday. Yang racked up 12 assists and seven digs while Swan recorded 11 kills and one ace. Hsu registered nine assists, two kills and two while Petroc finished with eight kills and four digs. Evans tallied three blocks and two kills, sophomore Jeffrey Hickman produced two kills and two blocks, and freshman Riley Vencatachellum had two kills. Cho collected five digs and two assists while Voelker had four digs.
LCHS competed in the Crescenta Valley Tournament last weekend and finished with a 2-4 record. The Spartans defeated Gabrielino High of San Gabriel, 25-12, 25-23, and Simi Valley, 26-24, 17-25, 15-9. La Cañada suffered losses to Thousand Oaks, 25-19, 25-18, Gabrielino, 25-16, 25-18, Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 25-14, 25-18, and Eagle Rock, 22-25, 25-17, 15-12. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The third-place Spartans (13-18 overall, 3-3 in league) will visit San Marino for their regular-season finale today at 5 p.m. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.

Flintridge Preps Jake Matsumoto recorded 13 assists during a Prep League match against Pasadena Poly last week

The Wolves lost to visiting powerhouse Pasadena Poly, 23-25, 25-12. 25-17, 25-21, in a Prep League match last Thursday.
Jake Matsumoto registered 13 assists while Preston Chen tallied nine assists. Kerry Ji produced eight kills while Daniel Choi finished with seven kills. Kyle Yun collected five kills, Matthew Wang recorded three kills and Zachary Tsai had two kills.
Third-place Flintridge Prep (8-9 overall, 3-4 in league) hosted Providence High of Burbank for its regular season finale yesterday; the match ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.

St Francis senior Blake Welsh produced four blocks and two kills to help the Golden Knights beat Oak Park

The Golden Knights defeated host Oak Park, 25-16, 25-17, 25-27, 25-22, in a nonleague match last Tuesday.
Senior captain Gabe Metcalf racked up 29 assists, nine digs, one kill, one ace and one block while junior Titus Rodz registered 14 kills, 10 digs, two blocks and one assist. Senior Travis Brown tallied 13 kills, three blocks, three digs and one assist while sophomore Ryan Bender produced 12 kills, five blocks, four digs and one assist. Senior captain James Clapp recorded seven kills, seven digs, two blocks and one assist while junior Will Martinez finished with three kills, three blocks and one dig. Senior Blake Welsh produced four blocks, two kills, two assists and one dig, senior Aidan Joel Lopez made nine digs, and senior Trevor Shackleton collected eight digs, six assists and two aces.
Second-place SFHS (24-6 overall, 4-1 in league) will conclude the regular season by competing in the Redondo Classic this weekend. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m.
