Hillside School’s Wine-Tasting Event Is a Success

The Hillside School and Learning Center held its annual wine-tasting fundraiser on Saturday, April 22.
It was a memorable event as an alum, Casey Schaeffer, from the Class of 2003, was the guest speaker for the evening. Schaeffer shared his fond memories of attending Hillside, receiving the support he needed as a student with an IEP that was struggling in the public school system. After graduating Hillside, he went on to receive his bachelor’s in psychology from California State University of Long Beach. He then went on to receive his master’s degree to become a school psychologist and is currently pursuing that passion in Glendale Unified School District.
“Hillside is a special place, it’s like family,” Schaeffer said. “I’m happy that the people that helped me back then are still at Hillside today.”
The evening was well attended by current and former staff, teachers, board members, alumni families, community members and current parents. There were several opportunities for all to support Hillside through purchasing wines and accessories, bidding on auction items or making donations.
As a nonprofit organization, Hillside relies on donations, support from the community and fundraising events such as the wine tasting.
“It was a very special evening, and I look forward to this event each year,” said Cyndi Hatcher, Hillside’s executive director. “It’s a special time that the true community of Hillside comes together for one night to celebrate our mission.”
