In the April 17 edition of the Outlook Valley Sun, the article “City Council Weighs Increase in Sales Tax” said the idea of raising sales taxes is not based on a need, but on a taxing opportunity.
What an elegant thinking processes our city leaders display! No discussion of any urgent need for funds, no proposals for what the $2.5 million in new revenue will be used for, no analysis of what impact diverting this money from the local economy would have, and no trade-off considered as to the benefit this revenue would have versus that impact.
Truly, the discussion is void of any community financial considerations at all, demonstrating an ignorance of money management and economic concepts that is laughable, if not so tragic.
There is talk about competence testing presidents in view of Joe Biden’s age; however, I suggest that all politicians and leaders should demonstrate qualifications for their jobs, and then practice those skills in their positions, just like anyone with a job.
