Evelyn Hsing, a 3rd-grader at La Cañada Elementary School, recently traveled to Chicago to compete in the All Girls National Chess Tournament. The 9-year-old placed 17 out of 60 girls and is now ranked 19th in her age group in the nation. Hsing started playing chess four years ago, with the Chess Nuts Club at La Cañada Elementary.
