LC’s Relay Team Breaks School Record

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ and girls’ swim teams competed in the CIF-Southern Section finals at the Riverside Aquatic Complex last week. The boys’ team finished fifth overall in the Division I competition while the girls’ placed fourth in Division II.
The boys’ team was highlighted by the relay team of Pierce O’Grady, Igor Benderskii, Jacob Boulanger and Ryan Makouar, who broke the 2019 LCHS 200 freestyle school record with a 1:24.82 time in fifth.
Maksymil Sawoniewicz was the boys’ 1-meter dive runner-up with a 560.45 score while Jake Driscoll finished second in the mixed Paralympic 50 free with a 1:07.49 time.
Benderskii placed fourth in the boys’ 100 free with a 45.21 time while Makouar (48.45) took fifth in the boys’ 100 fly. Pierce O’Grady finished seventh in the boys’ 200 free with a 1:39.66 time while Benderskii (1:39.83) and Makouar (1:40.56) placed ninth and 12th, respectively. The relay team of Benderskii, Makouar, Pierce O’Grady and Boulanger took eighth in the boys’ 400 free with a 2:08.48 time.

The girls’ squad was highlighted by the relay team of Mia Bugarin, Avalon Sanders, Mia Kronson and Meredith O’Grady which finished third in the girls’ 400 freestyle with a 3:36.79 time — a 1.84-second improvement from the preliminary round.
Meredith O’Grady took fourth in the girls’ 100 free with a 52.82 time while the relay team of Bugarin, Sanders, Kaley Schmidt and Meredith O’Grady placed seventh in the girls’ 200 free with a 1:40.03 time. Meredith O’Grady (1:54.02) and Bugarin (1:55.59) finished eighth and 11th, respectively, in the girls’ 200 free. Bugarin was eighth in the girls’ 500 free with a 5:07.14 time while Sanders (5:14.88) and Lilli Perner (5:25.06) took 13th and 18th, respectively. Kronson (59.96) placed 16th in the girls’ 100 fly while Emi Machida (426.75) and Chelsea Brack (365.75) were 17th and 38th, respectively, in the girls’ 1-meter dive.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves recently competed in the CIF-Southern Section Division II and III finals last week at the Riverside Aquatic Complex.
The girls’ relay team of Addie Gish, Charlotte Fishman, Megan Lee and Natalie Walklett won the 200 freestyle with a 1:35.69 time — a 3.63-second improvement from the preliminary round. The girls’ relay team of Gish, Lee, Sarah Iturbe and Walklett won the girls’ 400 free with a 3:31.81 time — a 5.06-second improvement from the prelims.
Gish won the girls’ 100 back with a 54.99 time while also placing second in the girls’ 200 free with a 1:48.51 time. Walklett won the girls’ 200 IM with a 2:02.69 time while also taking second in the girls’ 100 breast with a 1:03.19 time.
Athan Boutakidis was the boys’ 50 free with a 20.65 time while also placing fourth in the 100 free with a 46.72 time. The boys’ relay team of Aidan Grimm, Kai Timbadia, Ridley Tolleson and Boutakidis finished fifth in the 200 free with a 1:30.23 time. The boys’ relay team of Grimm, Isaac Jung, Tolleson and Boutakidis took sixth in the 400 free.
Fishman placed 11th in the girls’ 100 fly with a 58.34 time while also taking 15th in the girls’ 200 free with a 1:57.69 time. Lee (2:11.03) was 14th in the girls’ 200 IM while also taking 16th in the 500 free with a 5:18.23 time. Iturbe (54.54) was 14th in the girls’ 100 free.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs recently competed in the CIF-Southern Section Division III finals last week at the Riverside Aquatic Complex.
The girls’ relay team of Kaitlyn Beltz, Grace Anich, Guinevere Andrews and Reese Artura finished 15th in the 200 medley with a 1:59.86 time while also taking 17th in the 200 free with a 1:46.97 time. Andrews was 16th in the 100 back with a 1:04.26 time.

ST. FRANCIS

The Golden Knights recently competed in the CIF-Southern Section Division II finals last week at the Riverside Aquatic Complex.
Nathan Kim won the boys’ 200 freestyle with a 1:37.12 time while also winning the 100 free with a 44.59 time. The relay team of Kim, Owen Bollert, Donovan Esquivel and Jason Alietti finished 12th in the 200 free with a 1:29.31 time.
