La Cañada High School recently hosted its 2023 Invention Convention, which was open to all students grades 4-6, on May 3 in the school’s cafeteria.
The convention was a multiple weekslong project that required students to use their ingenuity, creativity, as well as engineering and presentation skills to brainstorm a product that solves a problem, develop a prototype and present their work to others.
Some examples of projects from past conventions included a special vacuum for Legos and other toys, devices to help flip laundry and a waterproof backpack.
Some students worked in groups of up to three people to invent something original, or modify an existing object, that solved a problem or make a task easier, while staying within a $30 budget.
The convention was judged by members of LCHS’ Science National Honors Society.
