Code Ninjas, a technology-focused learning center, will debut its new location in La Cañada Flintridge on Saturday, June 17, located at 2222 Foothill Blvd.
The local owners of Code Ninjas know that video games aren’t only fun, but educational. The center will serve the local area by teaching children computer coding and problem-solving skills while building video games.
The LCF location is owned and operated by Felipe Yang. Born in Brazil and raised in Southern California, Yang leapt into this new business after seeing how happy Code Ninjas made his son last year. By combining his passion for technology and innovation, along with his experience running small businesses, Yang is ready to introduce Code Ninjas to the local neighborhoods.
“Code Ninjas is new to the community and will provide the kids in and around La Cañada Flintridge a way to gain skills for their future while developing friendships,” Yang said. “This will provide a small community within a community for people who are passionate about STEM, computer games and technology.”
Local children ages 7-14 can look forward to visiting the new Code Ninjas center to learn how to code in a fun, safe and social learning environment, where gaming is celebrated, and STEM is cool. Code Ninjas is built around fun, while also providing coding and problem-solving skills children can take with them for future jobs and careers.
Code Ninjas operates with a robust, game-based curriculum made up of nine belts, just like martial arts. The curriculum is self-paced, but not self-taught; children get immediate help and encouragement from “Code Senseis” and fellow students as they advance from white to black belts.
The program keeps children motivated with achievements and “Belt-Up” celebrations, where color-coded wristbands mark their graduation to the next level. By the time a child finishes the program, they will publish an app in an app store.
Code Ninjas offers a variety of opportunities for children to get involved, including a flexible weeknight drop-in program, camps and Parents Night Out events on weekends.
