The La Cañada Flintridge City Council approved a resolution consenting to the Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement, establishing a partnership with the California Statewide Communities Development Authority and approving Associate Membership in the Joint Powers Authority on June 6.
Through this adoption, the city is launching its new Property Assessed Clean Energy Program. After the discontinuation of the previous program, the City Council has taken proactive steps to establish a robust PACE program that will empower residents and businesses to make energy-efficient upgrades and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
“We are thrilled to introduce the new PACE Program to the residents and businesses of La Cañada Flintridge,” said Mayor Keith Eich. “The program not only supports our Climate Action Plan and disaster preparedness efforts but also stimulates economic development within our city. Through this program we are paving the way for a greener future and ensuring a high quality of life for our residents.”
Operating for 14 years, the longest-running program of its kind in California, the CSCDA PACE program provides financing for both residential and commercial property owners to overcome the strain of up-front payments to implement renewable energy upgrades. Property owners can repay their improvement fees over a period of five to twenty-five years through annual property assessments, offering flexibility and affordability.
The program provides residents with the option of three PACE program administrators, agencies who administer the PACE program on behalf of a public agency, for residential projects and thirteen for commercial projects. Since the transactions are between PACE administrators and property owners, the program involves no taxpayer dollars or staff obligation.
“The PACE program is a great opportunity for our residents to finance energy efficiency, renewable energy, water preservation and seismic improvements in an affordable way,” said Director of Community Development Susan Koleda. “Implementing PACE in La Cañada Flintridge is one of the many ways we prioritize sustainability in our city, and it furthers our commitment to efficiency and conservation.”
