Spartans Hold Off Tologs in Four Games

The La Cañada High School varsity secured a 25-9, 25-15, 20-25, 25-16 nonleague victory at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy last Friday as senior Haley Clark amassed a career-high 25 kills with seven digs, three aces and two blocks.
Junior Ashby Zubchevich racked up 15 kills, seven digs, four blocks and one ace, while senior Tatum Purdy produced 41 assists, nine digs and three aces. Senior Chloe Nussbaum tallied 12 digs, five assists and one ace while freshman Maya Purdy finished with 10 digs and four aces. Freshman Luella Lewis registered six kills, three blocks and one dig while senior Emma Reed recorded five kills and four blocks. Junior Danica Eggleston had two aces and one dig while junior Irelyn Fung notched one dig.
The Spartans previously lost a nonleague matchup at Alemany High in Mission Hills in four games, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 23-25. Zubchevich amassed 24 kills, 12 digs, two blocks and one ace, while Clark racked up 13 kills, 12 digs, three blocks and one ace. Tatum Purdy registered 39 assists and eight digs while Nussbaum tallied 27 digs, two assists and one ace. Maya Purdy collected eight digs, seven kills, one ace, one block and one assist, while sophomore Vani Tatoulian recorded five blocks, three digs, two kills, one ace and one assist. Reed produced three blocks, two kills and one dig, Lewis finished with four blocks and one dig, and Eggleston notched five assists and one dig.
La Cañada (4-4 overall) will visit Chaminade High in West Hills for a nonleague contest Thursday at 6 p.m. before hosting Marlborough High of Los Angeles on Sept. 7.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy junior Ally Du recorded nine assists and six digs during a nonleague match against La Cañada last week

The Tologs had their three-match win streak snapped after losing to visiting La Cañada in four games, 9-25, 15-25, 25-20, 16-25, in a nonleague match last Friday.
Senior Mikayla Hsieh registered 14 digs, nine assists, seven kills, one ace and one block, while senior Luisa Madrigal finished with seven kills, six digs and one block. Senior Lindsey Du racked up 16 digs, five assists and three aces, and junior Ally Du recorded nine assists and six digs. Sophomore Grace Savarese produced three kills and one dig, junior Piper Scherbert tallied four kills and senior Veronica Udell notched three kills. Freshman Sophia Wright collected seven digs and two aces, sophomore Grace McCarthy had two digs and one ace and freshman Clare McCarthy had one dig.
FSHA recently posted a nonleague sweep at Oakwood High in North Hollywood, 25-13, 25-17, 25-8. Madrigal registered 10 kills, nine digs, one ace and one block, while Scherbert finished with seven kills and three blocks. Hsieh collected 11 assists, five digs, three aces, one kill and one block, and Lindsey Du produced 11 digs, three aces and one assist. Wright had eight aces, four digs and one assist, Grace McCarthy recorded two kills and one dig and senior Lilly Venne tallied one kill and two blocks. Senior Colleen Traver was credited with three assists and one ace while sophomore Alexandra Carr, Savarese and Udell each notched one kill and one dig. Senior Pia Costanzo had two digs while Ally Du had one dig and one assist.
The Tologs previously defeated visiting Providence High of Burbank in a nonleague match in four games, 24-26, 25-18, 26-24, 25-12. Madrigal racked up 30 digs, 12 kills, three aces and two blocks, while Hsieh amassed 29 digs, 20 assists, 11 kills, three aces and one block. Udell registered 11 kills, seven digs and one block, Lindsey Du produced 31 digs, five aces, four aces and one kill and Ally Du collected 22 assists, 11 digs and two aces. Scherbert recorded nine kills and seven digs, while Grace McCarthy tallied seven digs, three kills and three blocks. Wright finished with six digs, two aces and one kill, Clare McCarthy notched one kill and one dig and Savarese had one dig.
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (3-3 overall) will host San Marino in a nonleague match on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before hosting Immaculate Heart High of Los Angeles on Sept. 7.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves swept visiting San Gabriel, 25-11, 25-10, 25-13, in a nonleague matchup last Friday as Abbie Callaway racked up 13 digs, seven kills and five aces. Makayla Jones registered eight kills and two blocks, Jessica Powell produced eight kills and Frankie Callaway finished with six kills. Lucy Liu had three kills and two blocks while Jaleen tallied four digs.
Flintridge Prep previously picked up a four-game, 25-20, 25-21, 25-27, 35-33 Prep League victory over visiting Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia as Ashlyn Nam amassed 50 assists and two kills. Abbie Callaway collected 19 kills, 14 digs and two aces, Powell racked up 13 kills, seven digs and two blocks and Marissa Halley registered 17 digs and three aces. Jones produced eight kills and three digs, while Ava Burlingame finished with 11 digs.
The Wolves (7-1 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Pasadena Polytechnic for a league contest Thursday at 4 p.m. before hosting Providence High of Burbank the following day.
Next week, Flintridge Prep will host league opponents Palos Verdes Chadwick and Westridge School of Pasadena for a pair of home matchups.
