St. Francis Tops Mira Costa

The St. Francis High School varsity football team won its second straight game following a 34-21 victory over visiting Mira Costa High of Manhattan Beach in a nonleague game last Friday.
Junior John Sanders completed 14 of 24 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 45 yards on seven carries. Senior Preston Jernegan caught six passes for a team-best 125 yards while sophomore J.T. Martin made a pair of receptions for 81 yards. Senior John Calmette rushed for 48 yards on 14 carries and made three catches for 25 yards while senior JP Day had two receptions for 25 yards. Senior Ryan James and junior Ben O’Connor each made one catch for 18 and 7 yards, respectively, while freshman Shawn Sanders executed a 9-yard pass in the pocket.
The Golden Knights (2-0 overall) will host Millikan High of Long Beach for a nonleague game Friday at 7 p.m. before visiting St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy in Downey on Sept. 8.
