LCHS Sweeps Hart in Home Opener

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ volleyball team swept visiting Hart High of Newhall, 25-16, 25-21, 27-25, in its nonleague home opener last Monday.
Senior Tatum Purdy racked up 31 assists, three digs, three kills, two aces and one block, junior Ashby Zubchevich produced 18 kills, four digs, three aces and two blocks, and senior Haley Clark contributed 11 kills, four digs, two assists and one ace. Freshman Maya Purdy registered five digs, two kills, two aces and two blocks, while senior Chloe Nussbaum tallied six digs and three assists. Sophomore Vani Tatoulian finished with three digs, one kill and one block, senior Emma Reed collected three blocks and one kill, and junior Danica Eggleston had three aces.
The Spartans recently lost a nonleague match at Chaminade High in West Hills, 20-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-27.
Clark racked up 21 kills, 14 digs, four blocks and one ace, while Zubchevich contributed 20 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Tatum Purdy collected 46 assists and 18 digs, Maya Purdy finished with 11 kills, seven digs, three aces and one block, and Nussbaum registered 22 digs, eight assists and four aces.
LCHS (5-5 overall) will host Marlborough High of Los Angeles in a nonleague match on Thursday at 5 p.m. before opening Rio Hondo League action at Monrovia on Sept. 12.

FSHA lost at Marlborough High in Los Angeles in four games, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-18, in a nonleague match last Wednesday.
Senior Mikayla Hsieh racked up 18 kills, 15 digs, three assists and two aces, senior Luisa Madrigal collected 17 digs, 10 kills, three blocks and one ace, and junior Ally Du registered 16 assists, nine digs and two aces. Senior Veronica Udell contributed six kills and three digs, junior Piper Scherbert produced four kills, three blocks and one dig, and sophomore Grace McCarthy finished with four blocks, three kills and one ace. Senior Lindsey Du tallied four assists and three aces, freshman Sophia Wright recorded four digs and one ace, and freshman Clare McCarthy had two blocks, one kill and one dig.
The Tologs lost to visiting South Pasadena in five games, 17-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 12-15, in a nonleague match last Monday, as Hsieh collected 16 assists, 16 digs, 10 kills, three blocks and two aces.
Madrigal racked up 15 digs, seven kills and four blocks, Ally Du produced 15 assists, 15 digs and two aces, and Lindsey Du contributed 25 digs and one assist. Scherbert tallied nine kills, three digs and two blocks, while Grace McCarthy finished with five blocks, three digs, one kill and one assist. Wright recorded eight digs while Udell had four kills, two blocks and one dig. Clare McCarthy registered two kills, one block and one dig while sophomore Grace Savarese had one kill, one block and one dig.
Flintridge Sacred Heart (3-5 overall) will host Immaculate Heart of Los Angeles for its Angeles League opener on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Tologs will compete in the Whittier Cardinal Classic Tournament this weekend before resuming league action at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks on Monday.

The Wolves defeated visiting Providence High of Burbank in four games, 25-21, 25-22, 13-25, 25-21, in a Prep League match last Friday as Abbie Callaway collected 19 kills, 10 digs and four aces.
Jessica Powell tallied 10 kills, while Marissa Halley contributed 16 digs. Ashlyn Nam finished with seven digs and five aces while Clara Bassuk produced seven digs. Frankie Callaway recorded six kills, Makayla Jones had four kills and Natalia Pradhan registered four aces.
Flintridge Prep lost to host Mayfield Senior in four games, 15-25, 25-22, 21-25, 17-25, in a league matchup on Aug. 29.
Abbie Callaway racked up 15 kills, 10 digs and seven aces while Nam amassed 37 assists, eight digs and three aces. Powell contributed 12 kills, while Halley tallied 13 digs. Jones and Lucy Liu each had five kills, while Jaleen Tseng finished with nine digs.
The Wolves (8-3 overall 2-2 in league) will host Westridge School for a league match on Friday at 5:15 p.m. before visiting Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia on Sept. 19.
