Spartans’ Late Rally Not Enough Against Cardinals

The La Cañada High School varsity football team lost at Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary 14-9 in a nonleague showdown last Friday.
The game kicked off with a scoreless first quarter, setting the stage for a nail-biting contest. However, it was in the second quarter that the Cardinals managed to break through and score the opening touchdown.
With just 7:16 remaining in the fourth quarter, senior quarterback Macky Plocher scored a rushing touchdown, bringing La Cañada within six points late in the game. The Spartans couldn’t find the end zone again and Cantwell-Sacred Heart held on to secure a 14-9 victory. The Spartans had a tough time finding the end zone in the first three quarters, with their only points coming from a field goal executed by junior Quest Swan.
LCHS (2-1 overall) will be on the road to face Burroughs High of Burbank in a nonleague game at Memorial Field on Friday at 7 p.m. The Spartans were previously set to host Santa Paula High, which pulled out of the game “due to an illness that has swept through the Cardinals locker room,” according to the Santa Paula team’s statement on its Twitter/X social media account.
