Spartans, Wolves Begin Season Unbeaten

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ tennis team secured a narrow 10-8 nonleague victory over visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on Sept. 6.
In singles action, No. 1 Lillian Chamras swept her matches by scores of 6-1, 6-0, 6-2. No. 2 Jessica Simonian also won in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, No. 3 Maya Lindenfeld secured a 6-4 victory.
The No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Kim and Kaylee Thornburgh won a set, 6-0, while the No. 2 duo of Pauline Hess and Christina Seifert secured a 6-4 win. Claire Lin and Kate Austin, the No. 3 doubles pair, clinched a set by a score of 6-2.
The Spartans previously defeated visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 16-2.
In singles, No. 1 Chamras recorded a pair of 6-0 victories before alternating with Elena Rose Galen, who completed the sweep with a 6-0 win. No. 2 Simonian won sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 before alternating with Mila Tadevosyan, who recorded a 6-0 win. No. 3 Lindenfeld swept her opponents by scores of 6-2, 6-0, 6-1.
The No. 1 team of Thornburgh and Kim dominated with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 sweep. No. 3 Lin and Austin collected two 6-0 victories before alternating with Hess and Seifert, who added a 6-2 win. The No. 2 tandem of Anna Forster and Quinn Parisi secured a 6-4 win.
LCHS (2-0 overall) will host Mark Keppel High of Alhambra for a nonleague game on Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. before opening Rio Hondo League action against visiting South Pasadena on Sept. 21.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves defeated visiting Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 13-5 in a nonleague match on Sept. 8.
In singles action, No. 1 Kat Zirn dominated her matches with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, while No. 3 Francesca Cecil secured a 6-3 victory.
The No. 1 doubles team of Kaitlyn Lavichant and Sienna Beltz swept their opponents with scores of 6-4, 6-1 and 6-1. The No. 2 tandem of Kayla Lee and Nicole Lee nearly replicated this success, sweeping with scores of 6-4, 6-0 and 6-0. The No. 3 duo of Vanessa Hsu and Kara Choy also earned a sweep with 6-1, 6-1 and 7-5 victories.
Flintridge Prep dominated visiting Milken High of Los Angeles 17-1 in a nonleague match on Sept. 6.
In singles play, No. 1 Zirn achieved a sweep with three consecutive 6-0 victories. No. 2 Emily Hsiao secured two wins, prevailing with scores of 6-1 and 6-0, before alternating with Elizabeth Kazanchain, who sealed the sweep with a 6-2 victory. Meanwhile, No. 3 Cecil claimed a pair of sets, winning by scores of 6-2 before Anika Anant stepped in to finish the job with a 6-3 victory.
In the doubles arena, the No. 2 duo of Beltz and Lavichant dominated their matches, sweeping with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. The No. 1 team of Kayla Lee and Nicole Lee secured two sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 before Vy Pham and Olivia Tanouye took over and completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory. The No. 3 duo of Choy and Hsu also contributed to the team’s success, winning two sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
The Wolves defeated host Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth in games 9-9 (75-68) in a nonleague match on Sept. 5.
In singles action, No. 1 Zirn and No. 3 Cecil each secured a set with a convincing 6-0 score, while No. 2 Hsiao contributed with a solid 6-2 victory.
In the doubles matches, the No. 2 team of Beltz and Lavichant dominated their opponents, sweeping with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3. The No. 1 tandem of Kayla Lee and Nicole Lee earned two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1, while the No. 3 duo of Choy and Hsu added a 6-1 win.
Flintridge Prep (3-0 overall) will open Prep League action at Westridge School in Pasadena on Sept. 19 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Mayfield Senior of Pasadena on Sept. 21.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs lost at Flintridge Prep 13-5 in a nonleague match on Sept. 8
In singles play, No. 1 Madison Wuu secured two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. No. 2 Ashley Hurjak also claimed two sets, winning with scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Meanwhile, No. 3 Iris Beijar contributed with a 6-3 victory.
FSHA previously lost a nonleague match at La Cañada 16-2.
The No. 1 team of Grace Garrity and Mia Wertheimer secured a set by a score of 6-4, while the No. 2 pairing of Emma Oakland and Gabriella Newman also won a set by a 6-3 score.
The Tologs (0-4 overall) will open Mission League action at Marlborough High in Los Angeles on Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. before hosting Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Sept. 20.
