Driver Hits Two Students on Foothill

Two St. Francis High School students were struck by a car and sustained minor injuries last week as they were walking along Foothill Boulevard in front of Crestview Preparatory School on their way to football practice.
The group of about eight kids were walking to practice after school on Oct. 3 around 2:45 p.m. when a vehicle veered off the road, jumped over the curb and struck two of the students. The driver allegedly was having a medical emergency, according to Chief Operating Officer Andy Burghdorf of St. Francis.
St. Francis responded immediately after the students called their athletic director for help, which then led the school to call authorities and medical professionals for assistance.
“So, God’s hand was definitely on us, because we were really fortunate that both those students walked away with just minor scrapes,” Burghdorf told the Outlook Valley Sun. “They were both transported to the hospital, but they were released without any major impact.”
He wanted to remind students that anything can happen and being aware of their surroundings is essential.
“When you’re walking, it’s good to get off your cell phone,” Burghdorf said. “It’s important to be aware of your surroundings at all times.”
Burghdorf said he was also appreciative of the quick response from law enforcement and emergency personnel.
