LCPC Presents Concert of Baroque Favorites

La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s All Saints Concert on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. features exciting and inspiring music from the Baroque era for choir and orchestra.
The concert will be presented in-person, and live-streamed on the LCPC website, YouTube and Facebook.
Vivaldi, Bach and Handel are very familiar names from the Baroque era of the first half of the 18th century whose works defined musical forms and set the stage for church, community and concert events of the era. The LCPC program includes Handel’s Coronation anthem “Zadok the Priest” first performed in 1727 at the coronation of King George II in England and has been repeated at the coronation of every British monarch down to King Charles III in 2023. Bach’s Cantata No. 29 “We Thank You, God” was composed for the installation of the Leipzig City Council and continues to inspire today with its combination of solo virtuosity and use of trumpets and tympani to brighten up the festivities. The concert includes works by Vivaldi and Marcello as well as additional works by Bach and Handel.
Celebrating All Saints Day, the concert salutes the members of the greater LCPC family who have passed away in the past year. Soloists include Rebecca Sjöwall, soprano, Kimberly Poli, contralto, Matthew Thomas, tenor, and Mark Beasom, bass. Featured soloist for the Concerto for Oboe in D Minor by Alessandro Marcello is Marissa Honda.
Prior to the concert, LCPC’s director of music and worship arts, Jack Lantz, will present a lecture on the program and the composers in the church sanctuary at 1:30 p.m.
The concert will be held in the sanctuary of La Cañada Presbyterian Church, located at 626 Foothill Blvd. There is no cost for admission, but freewill offerings will be received.
For those who cannot attend in-person, the concert and pre-concert lecture will be livestreamed at live.lacanadapc.org.
