La Cañada Falls in CIF State Regional Final

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ volleyball team saw its terrific season end after losing at Palos Verdes in Palos Verdes Estates, 21-25, 23-25, 21-25, in its CIF State Division I Regional Final on Nov. 14.
Senior Haley Clark racked up 17 kills, seven digs, two blocks and one ace, while junior Ashby Zubchevich registered 17 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Senior Chloe Nussbaum tallied 26 digs, one assist and one ace, while sophomore Vani Tatoulian finished with four kills and three blocks.
“It was definitely a season I will never forget,” said La Cañada coach Laura Browder. “From start to finish, we had a very competitive schedule. We played in really high-level tournaments and we had really strong finishes. It was an unreal run by the senior class. Every year they have been a part of the program, we’ve been competing at a high level.”
La Cañada was the No. 14-seeded team and was on the road the entire run in the CIF State playoffs. Palos Verdes, the No. 4-seeded team, lost in the championship game to No. 6-seeded Valley Christian of San Jose.
The CIF Southern Section girls’ volleyball playoffs, the Spartans competed in the Division II bracket, reaching the quarterfinal round where they faced eventual champion JSerra. Clark was named to the All-CIF girls’ volleyball team for her efforts in the sectional playoffs.
The Spartans concluded their campaign as Rio Hondo League co-champions with a 7-1 record (30-13 overall).
