Presbyterian Church Welcomes Advent Season

This December, La Cañada Presbyterian Church is offering several ways for members and the community to prepare one’s heart, mind and spirit for the birth of Jesus on Christmas.
During Sunday morning worship, Pastor Ross Purdy will preach a new sermon series called, “The Angels of Christmas.”
For times of dedicated contemplation and meditation, LCPC’s Contemplative Ministries is offering an Advent Day Apart on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. An evening time for contemplation will be offered on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., called “Practicing the Presence of God.”
Christmas music happens every Sunday in December starting with a special Christmas Jazz Vespers featuring the Jack Lantz Sextet on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The following Sunday, Dec. 10, the Children’s Choir will present their Christmas Concert at 3 p.m. Then, on Sunday, Dec. 17, the Chancel Choir and Orchestra will perform their annual Christmas Concert, “Tidings of Joy,” at 2 p.m. Jack Lantz will present a pre-concert lecture at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
Families with young children are invited to participate in a Family Advent Event on Sunday, Dec. 10. Families can watch the children’s Christmas concert at 3 p.m., and then enjoy the hot cocoa bar while making a Christmas train together. To register, visit lacanadapc.org/registrations.
LCPC has always been particularly active in supporting local and global organizations and missionaries who serve the world’s most vulnerable populations. Throughout December, LCPC hosts an Alternative Christmas Market to provide special year-end support to these outreach partners. To give gifts that make a difference in the world, go to lacanadapc.org/market or visit the in-person market on Sundays, Dec. 3 and 10, after the 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. worship services to meet the representatives and learn how a gift can bring hope and joy to those in need.
