Sheriff’s Crime Report

A residential burglary was reported in the 500 block of Georgian Road on Dec. 5 at 6:12 p.m. A neighbor, who saw individuals running out of the victim’s house, alerted authorities. When deputies arrived, they conducted an exterior check of the residence and found the rear glass door smashed, but no suspects inside the home. The victim’s daughters were then contacted. They told deputies that the victim was returning home from Newport Beach after being informed about the burglary. The daughters also said that they received an alert from the motion sensor system in the dining room. The youngest daughter showed the deputies video footage that showed two men wearing dark hoodies. There was a total of four cameras at the house, but only one in the backyard captured the suspects. The deputies questioned a neighbor across the street from the house. The neighbor said that when he returned home and parked his vehicle, he heard a loud alarm sound from the targeted house. While watching the house, a black SUV approached from the east on Georgian Road without headlights on. He also saw one suspect exit the victim’s house and enter the vehicle, which drove out of view. The neighbor immediately contacted the victim but didn’t get an answer back. The neighbor also noted that they took a photo of the suspect’s vehicle, but due to lighting and blurriness, the deputies were not able to identify the make or license plate number. No items were identified as stolen by the victim at the time of the report.

A grand theft was reported in the 4600 block of El Camino Corto between Nov. 28 at 10:30 a.m. and Dec. 2 at noon. The victim left his house for vacation and when he returned home, he didn’t immediately notice anything unusual as he didn’t go to the backyard. The next day, upon doing his routine backyard cleaning, he found that his brown hot tub cover was missing. He also noticed that his water filter had stopped working and appeared to be damaged. The victim said that a suspect might have entered through the backyard gate as he never locked it. No surrounding video cameras were located.

As sheriff’s deputies were patrolling the 600 block of Foothill Boulevard on Dec. 5 at 3:12 a.m., authorities noticed an outdoor package drop box that had been pried open by an unknown tool. The door was left wide open, and its upper part displayed inner dents with scratches. A long metal bar, functioning as a locking mechanism to secure the door and the box appeared bent and damaged. Inside the drop box was an empty container that seemed designed to hold packages. The deputies contacted the emergency dispatch to inquire about the estimated repair value.

A check fraud incident occurred in the 600 block of Foothill Boulevard between Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. The victim deposited seven checks into an official mailbox located near a post office. A suspect broke into the mailbox and stole all the checks, and the victim confirmed that the post office placed a lock onto the mailbox after the incident. The victim used his phone to review the status of the checks within his bank account and discovered that some of the checks had been deposited and cleared. But upon examining the check image, he saw that some of them had been altered. The victim contacted their bank and reported the fraudulent activity.
