The YMCA of the Foothills partnered with Palm Crest Elementary in La Cañada Flintridge to organize a special event called Nutrition & Fitness Week that took place from Feb. 20 to Feb. 23.
The four-day program was designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about healthy nutritional practices and well-being in a fun and engaging way, with activities such as a yoga session led by a Y instructor, nutrition trivia relay races, and group games focused on movement and teamwork. More than 550 students participated in the activities and learned about friendly competition and being active.
The Avanisian family was one of the sponsors of the event.
“The partnership between the YMCA of the Foothills and Palm Crest Elementary for this event exemplifies the power of collaboration in fostering healthier communities,” PTA member Rainer Avanisian said. “Together, we’ve ignited a spark of wellness that is positively impacting the lives of over 550 students.”
The Iuculano, Bergmann and Hubbard families, along with organizations like the Palm Crest PTA, also helped sponsor the event.
“The Y’s core values are service to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility,” CEO of the YMCA of the Foothills Vince Iuculano said. “By partnering with the leadership and staff at Palm Crest Elementary, we have jointly created access for the students to learn about healthy nutritional practices and wellbeing through fun activities and games they can replicate independently.”
