Lacrosse: Spartans Fend Off Viewpoint in League Opener

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team defeated visiting Viewpoint High of Calabasas 5-4 in its Gold Coast League opener on March 12.
Junior Kai Gundersen registered 15 saves, senior Dylan Jeffries chipped in three goals, and juniors Finn Valderhaug and River Wokosin each scored one goal.
The Spartans (3-4 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Brentwood School of Los Angeles for a league game on March 21 at 5:15 p.m. before traveling to Village Christian High in Sun Valley on March 25.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights defeated visiting Harvard-Westlake High of Studio City, 15-9, in a Mission League game on March 16. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
St. Francis secured a 13-9 league victory at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on March 12 as junior Axel Gonzalez racked up seven goals, two assists and one ground ball.
Junior Eric Garbo tallied three goals and two ground balls, junior Ezekiel Peraza registered two goals, two assists and two ground balls, and senior Joseph Sonner contributed one goal and one assist. Junior Carlo Binda finished with 12 saves, while junior Myles Henry produced nine ground balls and two assists. Senior Dustin Bell collected four ground balls, while junior Carter Randall and sophomore Alec Heberger each recorded three ground balls. Senior Ryan James, senior Jayden Siques, junior Isaac Fajardo and freshman Kaden Wiebe each had two ground balls, while junior Valentino Notaro had one assist and one ground ball, sophomore Quinn Montenegro and freshman Dawson Henry each had one ground ball.
St. Francis (7-4, 3-0) will visit Chaminade High in West Hills for a league game on March 23 at 3:15 p.m. before traveling to Saugus on March 25.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE
The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ lacrosse team lost at Birmingham Charter High in Lake Balboa 6-5 in a nonleague game on March 15.
The Spartans had a chance to send the game into overtime, according to coach Jenny Ho, but La Cañada’s potential game-tying, buzzer-beating goal was disallowed after officials said the ball did not hit the back of the net in time.
La Cañada secured a 9-6 victory at California High in Whittier in a nonleague game on March 12 as sophomore captain Gretchen Louie made 10 saves.
Freshman Keira Miller contributed four goals, while freshman Julie Chien scored three goals. Junior captain Maddie McClure chipped in two goals, while freshmen Mina Canaday and Julie Chien were each credited with one assist.
The Spartans (4-6 overall) will host California High for a nonleague game on March 21 at 5 p.m. before visiting Heritage Christian High in Northridge on March 26.
