Baseball: Spartans Fall to Temple City in Extras

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team suffered a 5-3 extra-inning loss against visiting Temple City in a Rio Hondo League game on April 18.
Junior Cash Carroll pitched five innings with four strikeouts, while freshman Joe Bell, who had a hit and scored a run at the plate, pitched five innings with a pair of strikeouts. Sophomore Lucas Lee went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base, while sophomore Finn Flower-Hogan went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Sophomore Nate Chen registered a hit, a walk and a stolen base, sophomore Scott Burns finished with a hit and an RBI, and sophomore captain Will Park walked once and scored a run.
La Cañada (6-12-1 overall, 1-9 in league) will visit San Marino for its regular-season finale on April 25. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 10 a.m.

ST. FRANCIS

St Francis High School senior Lucas Favretto pitched 5 13 scoreless innings with one strikeout to help the Golden Knights beat Crespi High in a Mission League game on April 19

The Golden Knights secured a 4-3 extra-inning victory at Crespi High in Encino in a Mission League game on April 19.
Senior Lucas Favretto pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings with one strikeout, while senior Kalani Quiroz pitched 3 2/3 innings with one strikeout. Senior Holden Deitch recorded a solo home run and a walk, while senior Jordan Viramontes went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Senior Brody Ruyle registered a double and a run, junior Dane Shepard finished with a hit, two runs and a walk, and junior Dominik Hidalgo walked once.
St. Francis lost to visiting Crespi High 6-3 in a league game on April 17 as junior Jordan Lewallen went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and a run.
Senior Aaron Hernandez pitched three innings with four strikeouts and no walks, sophomore Aiden Mahoney pitched 2 1/3 innings with a strikeout, and Favretto pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with one strikeout, no walks and no hits. Shepard went 2-for-3, while Ruyle produced a double. Senior John Calmette contributed a hit, a run and a walk, while Deitch walked once and scored a run.
St. Francis lost at Crespi High 6-1 in a league game on April 16.
Junior Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich pitched three innings, senior James Mishler pitched two scoreless innings and senior Callum Clark pitched one inning. Viramontes recorded a double, Deitch produced a hit and a walk, and Calmette and Shepard each tallied a base hit. Sophomore Bobby Milton walked once and scored a run, while junior Jayden Kim, junior Jackson Pratt and Quiroz each walked once.
The Golden Knights (15-11, 7-8) ended the regular season at Chaminade High in West Hills on April 24; the league game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 10 a.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves lost at Monrovia 9-4 in a nonleague game on April 20.
Junior Greg Sue pitched three innings with a pair of strikeouts, while junior Will Koh, who had a hit, a run and a walk at the plate, pitched two innings with a strikeout. Junior Brian Xu went 2-for-2 with a run, a stolen base and a walk, sophomore Nathan Sanok recorded a hit, a run, a walk and a stolen base, and juniors Calvin Chen and Rowan Schaeffer each finished with a hit and an RBI. Freshman Spancer Rolfe was credited with an RBI, freshman Nicholas Aparicio walked once and scored a run, and junior Casey Augenstein stole a base.
Flintridge Prep picked up a 10-5 victory at Pasadena Polytechnic in a Prep League game on April 19.
Sophomore Will Grable, who finished with two stolen bases, a walk and a run at the plate, pitched four hitless innings with six strikeouts, while Sanok pitched three innings with three strikeouts. Aparicio went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three runs and three RBIs, while junior Matthew Chino went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, a walk and a stolen base. Koh went 3-for-5 with a run and a stolen base, while Chen went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk. Rolfe registered a hit, three RBIs, a run and a walk, Schaeffer tallied three walks and two runs, and Xu was credited with a walk and an RBI.
The Wolves suffered a narrow 4-3 league loss against visiting Polytechnic on April 16.
Schaeffer, who had a hit and a run at the plate, pitched a complete game with four strikeouts. Grable recorded a double, an RBI and two walks, Sanok and Aparicio each produced a hit and a run, and Rolfe and Xu each tallied a base hit. Koh walked twice, while Chino and Chen each walked once.
Flintridge Prep (12-11, 9-3) visited Valley Christian High in Cerritos for its regular-season finale on April 24; the nonleague game ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 29 at 10 a.m.
