Spartans, FSHA Advance to CIF Second Round

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ basketball team earned a stellar 44-41 CIF-SS Division 3AA first-round victory at a tough Burbank Providence High, 44-41, on Saturday evening.

Junior Mia Oakley-Stilson led the Spartans with 12 points against the Prep League champions while seniors Kylie Sears and Rachel Kim each collected 10 points. Freshman Jennifer Musso scored eight points, senior Lily Khayat registered three points and sophomore Talia Miyamoto finished with one point.
La Cañada (15-6 overall record) hosted Canyon High of Canyon Country (21-8 overall) in a second-round matchup last night; the result was unavailable by the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline. If the Spartans won, they will advance to a quarterfinal round and meet either Claremont (21-8 overall) or Cerritos (17-7 overall) this Saturday evening, Feb. 19.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART
FSHA routed host St. Monica Academy of Montrose, 77-18, in a CIF-SS Division 4A first-round playoff game on Saturday, Feb. 12, as four Tologs scored in double figures.
Senior Faith Ellis posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds while junior Meghan Garrity led in scoring with 13 points. Freshman Ava Nawrocki collected 12 points and five boards, junior Sophia Heredia scored 10 points, and senior Angelina Cao registered nine points. Juniors Celina Maduka and Jazmin Jones each finished with four points, seniors Isabella Cao and Sofia Parker each had three points, and sophomore Isabel Risha tallied two points.
FSHA (9-8 overall record) visited Lakeside High in Lake Elsinore (9-8 overall) for a second round game last night; the result was unavailable by the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline. If victorious, the Tologs will meet either Ojai Nordhoff (10-11 overall) or San Bernardino Aquinas (22-5 overall) in a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, Feb. 19.
