Spartans Dominate Monrovia; Flintridge Prep, SFHS Clash

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ tennis team dominated host Monrovia, 16-2, in a Rio Hondo League match on Tuesday afternoon.
The only Spartans’ losses came after No. 2 singles player senior Rishi Gupta was unable to compete in his final two sets due to an elbow injury he sustained during his 6-3 opening set victory.
LC’s No. 1 doubles team of juniors Aaron Magtoto and Rahul Gupta swept 6-0, 6-1, 6-1. The No. 2 duo of seniors Jack Kim and Andre Karayan also swept, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 3 tandem of sophomores David Lee and Spencer Moravec collected 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 victories.
In singles competition, No. 1 singles player junior Dylan Lu never lost a game, winning each set 6-0, while No. 3 singles player sophomore Justin Son tallied three victories, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.
LCHS (7-3 overall record, 4-2 in league) will visit South Pasadena on Friday, April 15, at 3:30 p.m. The last meeting between the two teams resulted in a 17-1 La Cañada victory on March 22.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves recently defeated crosstown rival Pasadena Poly, 13-5, in a Prep League match last Friday.
Flintridge Prep picked up a nonleague victory at neighboring St. Francis, 16-2, last Wednesday. Will Lanstra, Leon Liao, Jeremy Seiben, Neel Saada, Alec Gutherie, Ray Cabrera, Miles Cabrera, Luca Yeghmazar, Justin Sullivan-Pascual, Marcus Lin and Dilan Robbins each went undefeated.
The Wolves earned a nonleague victory at Crescenta Valley, 13-5, last Tuesday. Flintridge Prep was tied 3-3 in sets and 21-21 games after the first round. After the second round, the Wolves finally pulled ahead by winning two of three singles and sweeping doubles. Flintridge Prep ultimately secured five of the six remaining sets to pull out a victory. Lanstra, Seiben, Ray Cabrera and Miles Cabrera were all undefeated.
The Wolves (11-3 overall) will visit San Marino in a nonleague match on Thursday, April 14, at 3:30 p.m.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights remained winless after falling to Harvard-Westlake of Studio City, 14-1, in a Mission League match last Thursday. SFHS previously lost a nonleague match to visiting Flintridge Prep, 16-2, last Wednesday after losing to visiting Chaminade of West Hills, 11-7, in a league match on Tuesday, April 5. No individual statistics were reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Golden Knights (0-13-1 overall) are scheduled to return to action by competing in the Ojai Invitational, which begins on Thursday, April 21.
