Boys’ Volleyball: La Cañada Makes Strides in Crescenta Valley Tournament

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated Mark Keppel High of Alhambra in three games, 14-25, 25-20, 16-14, in its Crescenta Valley Tournament finale on April 13. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Spartans swept Kennedy High of Granada Hills, 25-20, 25-18, in a tournament match on April 13.
Jacob Que racked up 22 assists, seven digs, one kill and one block, Solmin Choi finished with 12 kills, eight digs and one ace, and Quest Swan registered 12 kills, five digs, one ace and one assist. Zachary Evans contributed four kills, one block and one assist, while Riley Vencatachellum recorded two digs, one kill and one block. Parker Petroc contributed two assists and two digs, while Jaden Kanf had one ace.
La Cañada picked up a three-game victory over Burbank, 25-13, 23-25, 15-11, to open the second day of tournament play on April 13.
Que finished with 22 assists, six digs, two kills, one ace and one block, Swan registered 13 kills, five digs and one ace, and sophomore Albert Cho produced 14 digs, one kill, one ace and one assist. Vencatachellum contributed seven digs, two blocks, one kill, one ace and one assist, while Choi tallied seven kills and six digs. Evans chipped in four kills and one dig, while Kanf was credited with two aces and two digs.
La Cañada swept Viewpoint High of Calabasas, 25-8, 25-13, to end the first day of tournament play on April 12.
Que tallied 15 assists, one kill and one dig, while Swan recorded seven kills, two digs and one ace. Choi contributed four kills and three digs, while Vencatachellum produced three kills, two aces and one dig. Evans chipped in two kills, while Cho had four digs and one assist.
The Spartans lost in three games to Village Christian High of Sun Valley, 23-25, 26-24, 12-15, in a tournament match on April 12.
Que was credited with 18 assists, six digs, one kill and one block, while Swan contributed 10 kills, five digs and one assist. Choi tallied five kills, five digs and three aces, while Evans finished with five kills, one ace, one block and one dig. Cho registered seven digs, five assists and one ace, while Vencatachellum had five digs and one kill.
LCHS suffered a three-game loss against Royal High of Simi Valley, 26-18, 25-22, 8-15, in its tournament opener on April 12.
Que recorded 13 assists, five digs and one ace, while Swan finished with eight kills, six digs and one assist. Evans tallied four blocks, three kills and one dig, Choi produced four digs and three kills, and Vencatachellum contributed three digs and two kills. Kanf chipped in two kills, one dig and one ace, while Cho registered six digs and two assists.
La Cañada lost in four games to visiting Temple City, 16-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-25, in a Rio Hondo League match on April 10.
Petroc racked up 15 digs, two assists, one kill and one ace, Jared Yang was credited with 13 assists, 13 digs and one ace, and Que tallied 13 assists, six digs, three kills and two aces. Evans produced 11 kills and five digs, Swan finished with nine kills and nine digs, and Vencatachellum registered six kills, two digs, two assists and one block. Cho contributed seven digs and one ace, while Timmy Huang chipped in one kill and one dig. Spencer Saenz collected two digs, while Jeffrey Hickman had one dig.
The Spartans (13-12 overall, 1-5 in league) will visit Temple City for their regular-season finale on April 18 at 5 p.m. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 20 at 11 a.m.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
Flintridge Prep was swept by Taft High of Woodland Hills, 13-25, 17-25, in its Crescenta Valley Tournament finale on April 13.
The Wolves were swept by Marshall High of Los Angeles, 28-30, 20-25, and Village Christian High of Sun Valley, 23-25, 18-25, in a pair of tournament matches on April 13. Flintridge Prep swept Taft High, 25-22, 28-26, after suffering a three-game loss against Chaminade High of West Hills, 16-25, 25-12, 12-15, in their tournament opener on April 12. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
Flintridge Prep was swept by visiting Pasadena Polytechnic, 14-25, 21-25, 20-25, in a Prep League match on April 10.
Senior Warren Nam registered 18 assists, one kill and one ace, freshman Nicholas Smith finished with six kills and one block, and sophomore Dylan Choi recorded five kills and one ace. Sophomore Kyle Yun produced three kills, while sophomore Zachary Tsai chipped in two kills. Junior Anthony Chang tallied two aces, while junior Kai Belzer had one kill.
The Wolves swept host Palos Verdes Chadwick, 25-16, 25-17, 25-15, in a league match on April 9.
Freshman Milo Shin racked up 30 assists and 12 digs, Yun contributed 11 kills, 11 digs, two aces and one assist, and senior Roderick Liu finished with 14 digs, five aces and one assist. Smith registered nine kills, six digs, five aces and one block, while Nam tallied seven kills, seven digs and four aces. Tsai recorded four kills and three blocks, while senior Steven Ng produced three kills and one block. Senior Preston Chen had one ace and one dig, while senior Ryan Ginn collected one dig.
Flintridge Prep (11-8, 4-2) visited Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia for its regular-season finale on April 17; the league match ended after the Outlook Valley Sun’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 20 at 11 a.m.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights swept host Crespi High in Encino, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17, in a Mission League match on April 13. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
St. Francis (19-7, 4-1) will visit Salesian High in Los Angeles for its regular-season finale on April 18 at 6 p.m. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 20 at 11 a.m.
