La Cañada Unified School District recently hosted a district Spelling Bee with champions coming from La Cañada Elementary School, La Cañada Preparatory, Palm Crest Elementary School and Paradise Canyon Elementary School. The competition took place in the District Office before a packed house of parents, friends and teachers.
La Cañada High School Associate Principal James Cartnal was Spell Master, and LCHS 7/8 Principal Jarrett Gold and LCHS Assistant Principal Mary Hazlett were judges for the event. Students spelled such words as “rotisserie,” “ceremonious,” “beleaguer,” “xenophobia,” and the winning word was “leniency.”
Winner Oliver Grenner from La Cañada Preparatory School outspelled 15 competitors.
