Global Leadership Summit Comes to LCF Aug. 10-11

Sheryl Sandberg

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg will be among the headliners at the 23rd Global Leadership Summit, presented by Willow Creek Association, on Aug. 10-11. The event will feature insight from individuals who will challenge leaders to maximize their influence. The two-day event will be simulcast live by satellite in HD to 600 sites in North America, including La Cañada Presbyterian Church (626 Foothill Blvd., LCF).
Sandberg, who is widely regarded as a key to Facebook’s meteoric success, and television host Marcus Lemonis of CNBC’s “The Profit,” will be among this year’s featured speakers. They are among those who will offer unique perspectives, enabling participants to challenge their learning.

Bill Hybels

Each member of the faculty is purposefully selected for expertise, proven success and innovative approaches in nonprofit, government, education and faith-based sectors, according to Bill Hybels, founder of the Global Leadership Summit and the senior pastor at Willow Creek Community Church.
“Three years ago when some of our staff who had been to prior Global Leadership Summits advocated that we be a host site, I thought it might be some kind of mushy ‘B class’ presentation,” said Chuck Osburn, La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s associate pastor.

“But when I learned of the list of speakers and then saw the excellence of the presentations, I became a champion of GLS. These two days of first-class presentations address the heart, mind and soul of cutting-edge leadership research and experience.”

Of previous attendees at the Global Leadership Summit in consecutive years, 81% cite concrete ways their supervisor has become a better leader because of the Summit, and 83% believe improved teamwork has increased productivity, teamwork and job satisfaction. In the fall, the Summit goes global in 60 languages, reaching 128 countries to inspire an anticipated 400,000 leaders to greater impact.

“Everyone has influence — whether you know it or not,” said LCF resident Keith Eich, who has attended the event the past two years.
“The summit is almost like a crash MBA course focusing on influence and leadership. Each session is an opportunity to learn something new about leadership. Each year I walk away with more ideas that I can take back to my day job on being a better leader, improving teamwork and having a more effective vision. This event changes the way you think. It allows you to both see and connect with something bigger than yourself.”
“Attending the Global Leadership Summit activates my leadership skills,” said local resident Caryn Ryan. “It’s inspiring to hear wonderful leaders talk about their world views, and how they lean in the problems and opportunities they see.”
In addition to Sandberg, Lemonis and Hybels, the event will also feature Marcus Buckingham, best-selling author of “Now, Discover Your Strengths.” Between the sessions during the two-day event, there are opportunities to network with other business executives and leaders.
