La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s Parent Education Program is offering a new program coming this fall — Parent Express for Parents of Tweens (5th- through 8th-graders), featuring large and small group discussions relating to pre-adolescent issues such as peer relationships, family communication, puberty and school adjustments.
This class, taught by parenting expert Paige Dunbar, will provide a monthlong opportunity for parents who cannot attend daytime classes to participate in Parent Education. Discussion topics will include: “The Tween Brain and Physical Development,” “Creating a Sense of Belonging at Home and School,” and “How to Effectively Maintain Boundaries,” to name a few. Classes will run Oct. 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 7-8:30 p.m. at LCPC. The rate is $80 for the four-week session (which covers both parents).

Entering its 39th year, Parent Ed offers 15 classes for parents of children 0-18 that provide education, friendship and sustenance. Parents of newborns through age 5 attend joint parent-and-child classes where both children and adults form lasting friendships as well as receive valuable education from seasoned educators. Classes include New Babies, Babies, and Older Babies, Non-Separating Toddlers, Two-Year-Olds, Parenting 3-4s and Family Class.
Parents with school-age children attend parent-only sessions to talk over the extra set of challenges that accompany raising elementary, tween and teen children. Classes include Parents of Elementary Kids, Parents of Tweens and Parents of High Schoolers. Classes meet weekly, September through May, and attract about 400 participants from 22 different cities.
