Fourth-grade students and parents in Lara Berdahl’s class at Palm Crest Elementary School recently prepared to set sail on the Pilgrim Ship in Dana Point after their visit to the San Juan Capistrano Mission. They packed for their overnight, which came with the opportunity to become a boatswain, linesman or galley crew member, among other duties. On the Pilgrim Ship, students experience life as it was on a ship headed to the California coast in the mission era of the state’s history.
