La Cañada, St. Francis Cruise to 2nd Round Playoff Wins

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team was stellar from the field in its CIF Southern Section Division 2A second-round game, shooting 52% and dominating in a 65-36 victory over visiting La Mirada on Tuesday.
The Spartans built a nine-point advantage in the first quarter and pulled away from their opponent in the second with 25 points scored. La Cañada led 44-23 at the half and held La Mirada at bay through the rest of the contest.

Ryan Graves led LCHS with 22 points and six rebounds and Ryan Grande chipped in 12 points. Kyle Brown netted 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, Zack Feehan finished with eight points and 10 rebounds, Garrett Kremer had seven points, Jake George tallied three points and seven assists and Riley Eng contributed two points.
The No. 3-seeded Spartans (25-5 overall record) opened the playoffs with a 57-43 win over Burbank last week. La Cañada will travel to Walnut for a quarterfinal game today at 7 p.m.
The Spartans and Mustangs share two common opponents in La Mirada and La Verne Bonita. Walnut was 1-1 against the Mustangs and defeated Bonita, 69-56. La Cañada suffered a 66-55 loss to the Bonita early in the season.
Should La Cañada come away with a victory, it would advance to the semifinals and face either Fullerton Troy or Irvine Crean Lutheran this Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m.

Temple City 49
Flintridge Prep 36

The Rebels were held at bay in the final quarter of a 49-36 loss at Temple City in a CIF Southern Section Division 4AA first-round playoff game last Friday.
Trailing 34-29 after three quarters, Flintridge Prep (14-12 overall) was unable to muster a run in the fourth, allowing the Rams to pull away for a double-digit victory.
Kevin Ashworth led Prep with 11 points, and Matthew Ho and Zach Kim added seven points each. John Lytle chipped in six points, A.J. Nicassio had three points and Bennett Oakes contributed two

St. Francis 94
Irvine Beckman 52

The Golden Knights cruised to a 94-52 win over visiting Irvine Beckman in a CIF Southern Section Division 3AA second-round game on Tuesday.
Dennis Flowers III led the charge with 25 points and Andre Henry chipped in 21 points for the home squad.
St. Francis (24-7 overall) opened the playoffs with a 66-62 victory over Marina High of Huntington Beach last week. Henry led the No. 4-seeded Golden Knights with 29 points and Flowers had 25 points.
The Golden Knights will hit the road and take on Oxnard in a quarterfinal game tonight at 7.
