LCF Trails Game Kicks Off April 1

First published in the March 24 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

The second annual LCF Trails Game officially kicks off on April 1 through 30.
The game is co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada and the La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council.
Entry into the LCF Trails Game is free and intended for all ages to encourage everyone to get out into the fresh air. Prizes will be awarded each week, including special prizes for the top three participants who rack up the most points for the entire game.
“We have received a lot of great feedback from last year’s participants, and are excited to bring back the game. We hope to get even more kids and families to head out to the trails for health and well-being, and a chance to win prizes,” said Linda Fors, LCF Trails Game Committee Chair and Kiwanis member.
LCF Trails Council President and committee member Tom Reynolds added: “The monthlong game gives everyone a chance to participate and enjoy the beautiful trails located right here in our own backyard. We encourage hikers, bikers and equestrians to join in the fun. The La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council is happy to once again be partnering with the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada on this event.”
Representing area youth and lending their tech talents are brothers Phil and Stellan Klemmer. Last year, Phil Klemmer custom-designed a website to make it easy to sign up for the games, with a QR Code linking to the game’s “point input form.” The form allows you to submit singular or multiple challenges at the same time. A wireless device can also be used to view an interactive trail map to verify your location, take selfies to win prizes and tally up points. There’s also new Mystery and Trivia Spot challenges to get extra points.
Each week, the top three point-earners will receive gift certificates valued at: 1st place ($75), 2nd place ($50) and 3rd place ($25). At the end of the four weeks, the top three participants who have tallied the most cumulative points will be awarded gift certificates valued at: 1st place ($150), 2nd place ($100) and 3rd place ($50).
The game is being held during “Keep America Beautiful Month” and “Earth Day Month,” with participants asked to do their part by picking up any litter for points.
To sign up or to get more details, contact the LCF Trails Council at lcftrails.org and look for the LCF Trails Game link. See the website for complete rules about trail guidelines.
A link to the game is also available through the Kiwanis by going to lacanadakiwanis.org; or contact the club via email at lacanadakiwanis@gmail.com.
