Full-Time Senior Center Needed

First published in the May 26 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

The city of La Canada Flintridge does not have a typical senior center. Therefore, I’m proposing that the city have a center for around 5,000 seniors living in LCF. This is approximately 25% of the population.
As many of us know the cities of Glendale, Pasadena, South Pasadena , Altadena, Monrovia, Montrose, Arcadia and Sierra Madre have full-time senior centers.
Studies by Medicare and the Heritage Health Organization indicate that seniors who get out of their home stay healthier and live longer.
From recent experiences at the Sierra Madre center, it has lots of activities, road trips, daily lunches and administrative and fiscal support.
There is a misconception that the LCF Community Center and the YMCA provides some services, but that is not the case as of now.
The Community Center might be a starting place for part-time service, however, it needs a little funding. A more permanent location with full-time use needs to be located.
