Spartans Conclude Regular Season

The La Cañada High School varsity baseball team lost to visiting San Marino, 8-3, in a Rio Hondo League game last Thursday.
Sophomore Josh Proctor went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and a walk while junior Justin McCubbin went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior captain Alex Higa registered a hit and an RBI while sophomore Leon Chen had a base hit. Junior Luke Raulli walked once and stole a base while junior Hayden Dancsecs walked once.
The Spartans previously picked up an 8-4 league victory over visiting Temple City. Senior captain Ethan Geller, who had four strikeouts over 2.2 innings on the mound, went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Chen went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and McCubbin went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run and a steal. Proctor, who walked and scored once, racked up eight strikeouts over 4.1 innings with one earned run, one hit and four walks while Raulli and Dancsecs each recorded a hit, an RBI and a run. Sophomore Cash Carroll tallied a hit and a run while freshman Will Park walked once.
Fourth-place LCHS (8-14 overall, 5-7 in league) will conclude the regular season by hosting St. Monica Academy of Montrose for a nonleague game today at 4 p.m. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Monday, May 1, at 10 a.m.

The Wolves were edged at Monrovia, 6-5, in a nonleague game on Saturday.
Senior captain John Kully registered a hit, three steals, an RBI and a pair of walks, sophomore Calvin Chen tallied a hit, an RBI a run, a steal and two walks, and sophomore Rowan Schaeffer finished with a hit, a steal and two runs. Sophomore Matthew Chino produced a hit, a run and a walk while senior captain Max Brunngraber recorded a hit and two walks. Sophomore Gregory Sue, who walked once and stole a base, allowed one hit over three scoreless innings of relief with no walks. Freshman Nathan Sanok walked and scored a run while sophomore Brian Xu was credited with an RBI.
Flintridge Prep defeated host Marshall High in Pasadena, 9-8, in an extra-inning nonleague game last Thursday. Schaeffer went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, two RBIs and a walk, sophomore Will Koh went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run, and Kully tallied a double, an RBI, a run and a walk. Freshman Will Grable, who had a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk,
finished with four strikeouts over four innings while Sanok, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs and a walk, pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Brunngraber finished with a hit and two walks while junior George Hayes produced an RBI and a run. Chen scored once while senior captain Graham DesHotel walked once.
The Wolves previously picked up a convincing 9-1 Prep League victory over visiting Providence High of Burbank as Brunngraber, who had a hit, an RBI and a run, tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts, six hits, one earned run and no walks. Koh went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run, Chen went 2-for-2 with two runs and a walk, and Sanok went 2-for-3 with a run. Xu recorded a hit and two RBIs, Schaeffer tallied a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk, and DesHotel produced a hit, a run and a walk. Meanwhile, Grable and Kully each walked and scored once.
First-place Flintridge Prep (14-8 overall, 8-2 in league) will visit Providence High for its regular-season finale today at 6 p.m. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Monday, May 1.

The Golden Knights were shut out by visiting Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks, 2-0, in a Mission League game on Monday.
Sophomore Jordan Lewallen tallied a hit and a walk, juniors Holden Deitch, Brody Ruyle and John Calmette each had a base hit, and sophomore Caleb Thatcher walked once. Senior Liam Thatcher allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts over four innings while junior Joe Krasnowski pitched a scoreless inning of relief with one walk and no hits.
St. Francis was swept by visiting Crespi High of Encino after suffering their second 4-3 loss in as many league games last Friday. Deitch went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, a run and a steal while Caleb Thatcher recorded a hit, an RBI, a run and a walk. Senior Lucas Dixon, who had a base hit, pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with four walks and no hits, senior Xander Douglas had two strikeouts over two innings on the mound, and junior Aaron Hernandez pitched an inning of relief without allowing a base runner. Junior Jordan Viramontes and sophomore Dane Shepard each tallied a base hit, Ruyle scored once, and junior Kalani Quiroz and Lewallen each walked once.
SFHS was edged at Crespi, 4-3, in a league game last Wednesday. Lewallen went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run while Deitch went 3-for-4 with a run. Ruyle went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Viramontes went 2-for-3. Junior Lucas Favretto finished with four strikeouts over three innings on the mound while Douglas pitched a pair of scoreless and hitless innings with one walk and a strikeout. Caleb Thatcher walked and scored a run while Shepard was credited with an RBI.

Quiroz recorded a hit and a run while junior Kal-El Holguin pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with one walk and no hits. Shepard tallied a base hit whole Calmette walked once.
Fifth-place St. Francis (11-14 overall, 7-11 in league) will conclude the regular season by hosting Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks today at 3:30 p.m. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Monday, May 1.
