Spartans Swept by San Marcos in CIF Opener

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team lost to visiting San Marcos High of Santa Barbara, 3-0, in its CIF-Southern Section Division II first-round opener last Thursday. Individual set scores and player statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Spartans finished the campaign third in the Rio Hondo League with a 4-4 record (13-20 overall).

The Golden Knights were edged at Dos Pueblos High in Goleta, 25-21, 17-25, 14-25, 25-20, 15-13, in a CIF-Southern Section Division II second-round match last Saturday. SFHS finished the campaign as the Mission League runner-up with a 5-1 record (19-7 overall).
Senior captain Gabe Metcalf racked up 37 assists, 14 digs, two kills and one ace while senior Travis Brow registered 14 kills, eight digs, one ace, one block and one assist. Senior captain James Clapp tallied 11 kills, three aces, three digs and one block while senior Blake Welsh produced 10 kills, five blocks, two assists and one dig. Junior Titus Rodz recorded nine kills, eight digs, three blocks, three assists and one ace while junior Will Martinez finished with seven kills, one block and one dig. Senior Aidan Joel Lopez collected seven digs, two aces and one assist while senior Trevor Shackleton had 11 digs, five assists and one ace.
St. Francis swept visiting King High of Riverside, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19, in its CIF first-round opener last Thursday as Metcalf racked up 39 assists, six digs, two aces, one block and one kill.
Clapp registered 13 kills, two blocks, one dig and one assist, Brown tallied 11 kills, six digs and one block, and sophomore Ryan Bender finished with 10 kills, nine digs, one block and one assist. Martinez had seven kills and one block, Rodz produced 11 digs, seven kills, five aces and one block, and Shackleton collected eight digs and one assist. Welsh had two kills, Joel Lopez recorded three digs and senior Drew Miller had one dig.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

The Wolves were swept at Calabasas, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21, in their CIF-Southern Section Division III wildcard match last Tuesday.
Kerry Ji registered eight kills, Daniel Choi tallied six kills and Kyle Yun produced five kills. Preston Chen and Zachary Tsai each recorded two kills while Dylan Choi had one kill.
Flintridge Prep concluded the campaign third in the Prep League with a 4-4 record (10-15 overall).
