La Cañada Unified School District Superintendent Wendy Sinnette announced that David Santiago-Speck will be appointed as principal of Palm Crest Elementary School at a special Board of Education meeting, May 25, at 12:30 p.m. The position appointment will be effective on July 1.
Speck has served in public education since 2004. He worked as an elementary school teacher in both the Los Angeles and South Pasadena Unified School Districts from 2004-2013. In 2013, he became a curriculum specialist for Arroyo Vista and Monterey Hills elementary schools in SPUSD.
From August 2015 to June 2017, Speck transitioned to a technology integration coach working from the SPUSD district office in support of the district’s elementary schools. Since 2017, he has been an assistant principal at South Pasadena High School.
Speck earned his bachelor’s in business administration and marketing from Cal State University, Northridge, and his M.A. in educational administration from Loyola Marymount University.
“I am very happy to be welcoming Principal Speck to LCUSD,” Sinnette said. “He brings with him a wealth of elementary school and administrative experiences, and we are fortunate to have him joining our administrative team. The interview panel, which consisted of teachers, staff, parents, administrators and Governing Board members, felt that he was an outstanding candidate whose skills, talents, and leadership style would be an excellent complement to the PCR school community.”
Speck’s message to the PCR Community was enthusiastic: “I am thrilled to join LCUSD as the new principal of Palm Crest Elementary! I am grateful for the warm welcome I have received so far, and I am extremely honored to be part of this community. I look forward to working with the PCR staff, students, and families, and continue to build on the school’s record of excellence.”
