Farewell to St. George’s Preschool

In 1969, St. George’s Preschool opened in La Cañada and began its mission of providing all children with a warm and welcoming environment for learning about themselves and the world around them. Our teaching philosophy had always been to teach creativity and social kindness while honing large and fine motor development and cognitive skills. We valued blank canvases over preprinted ones and as many in the community know, this work allowed freedom, joy and confidence to blossom in young minds.
In 1979, just 10 years after opening, I began my journey at St. George’s. Over time, I had the chance to work in every single position, rub shoulders with amazing teachers, staff, children and parents (too many friends to name!) and to engage with the community in beautiful ways. In those days, St. George’s was a family and I loved being involved.
After 41 years working on staff and 21 years as director, in 2020 the time came for me to step away. Choices were made to keep the school closed long after others reopened, and the focus of the property in general came into question.
How my heart aches to see this institution gasp its last breaths after more than 50 years of service to the community. How my heart soars knowing that the work we did was valuable and meaningful.
Farewell St. George’s Preschool and thank you for inspiring love and creativity for a job well done!
