Spartans 10U Softball Qualifies for State

The La Cañada 10U Spartans softball team participated in the USA Softball Western District Tournament last weekend in Thousand Oaks.
With victories over El Rio and the Ventura All-Stars, the Spartans performed as one of the top teams in the region and have qualified for the USA Softball California State Tournament from June 30-July 3 in Lancaster.
The team qualified for the state tournament in dramatic fashion as the Spartans came from behind to beat Ventura in the bottom of the sixth inning. Olive Liquori laid down a clutch bunt followed by a walk-off single from Tori Willes.
For the tournament, Ella Rocco (.636 batting average), Willes (.545), Emmy Zanotto (.462) and Nicole Sanders (.400) led the way offensively.
Meanwhile, Rocco, Lola Williams and Zanotto shouldered the load in the pitcher’s circle while catcher Clara Yum did a standout job behind the plate.
