CEC Honors Founders for 40 Years of Service

The Child Educational Center recently honored Eric and Elyssa Nelson, the founding directors of the CEC, for their longtime dedication at the center’s preschool yard.
The event brought together families whose children were part of the CEC many years ago, now returning with their own children — a testament to the lasting impact of CEC. Guests recounted stories of learning how to be parents at the CEC, cherishing the memories of children who have grown into adulthood and attributing their success to the caring environment provided by the center.
Former and current teachers also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of the CEC community, acknowledging the invaluable mentorship and affection shown by the Nelsons.
State Sen. Anthony Portantino, a CEC alumni parent, presented a state proclamation, which bestowed recognition on the Nelsons for their 40 years of service.
The Nelsons said they were touched by the attendees who were there to celebrate them.
“The CEC extends their heartfelt appreciation to all attendees and individuals involved in making this extraordinary evening possible,” a spokesperson said. “With newfound vigor, the CEC embraces the future, committed to fulfilling the promise of childhood for the next 40 years and beyond.”
The evening concluded with a heartfelt appeal to support the Teachers’ Endowment Fund, initiated by the Nelsons upon their retirement. This cause, dear to their hearts, aims to enhance compensation for teachers. Those interested in contributing or learning more about the Endowment Fund, which perpetuates the legacy the Nelsons have established, are encouraged to contact Trisha Steltzner, interim director of advancement.
