Sheriff’s Crime Report

A residential burglary was reported in the 4800 block of Fairlawn Drive between Dec. 28 at 6 a.m. and Jan. 4 at 11 p.m. The victim, his wife and their son returned home from vacation and when they entered the residence, which was locked, nothing appeared to be out of place. But, as he entered the master bedroom, located on the first floor, he saw both his and his wife’s dresser drawers opened with multiple items sprawled on the floor. He also saw glass near the bedroom sliding glass door. He immediately dialed 911 and told them that the rest of the residence was untouched. The victim’s wife said she was missing a yellow gold necklace, one yellow gold ring, a black velvet sack containing miscellaneous gold chains and charms, and eight Tiffany & Co. boxes which contained gold necklaces, rings, and bracelets. She also noticed that her diamond necklace was missing as well. The victim said he was also missing his grandmother’s yellow gold diamond ring from his dresser.

An identity theft incident occurred in the 4600 block of Viro Road on Dec. 11 at 12:01 a.m. The victim received an email from AAA credit monitoring service regarding an account opened at Orange County’s Credit Union using his personal information. On Dec. 13, he received a letter from the credit union advising him to visit a local branch to unlock his account. He emailed the credit union back saying that he did not open that account and he was told that a personal loan was given using his personal information. The victim called TransUnion, Equifax and Experian credit bureaus to place a freeze on his credit. He never authorized anyone to open an account using his personal information.

A forgery check incident occurred in the 5500 block of Stardust Road between Dec. 20 at midnight and Dec. 21 at 11:59 p.m. On Dec. 1, the victim wrote a check, and her grandson took the check that same week to get mailed at the post office located in the 600 block of Foothill Boulevard. Later in the month, the victim received a call stating her check was cashed but appeared suspicious and wanted to verify the information. The name on the check was not the name that she wrote on her check. She remembered mailing a second check with the first one but could not remember how the second was cashed. She denied both transactions to her bank and she was told that it appeared that the checks looked like the original name was erased and replaced with another. The grandson said that when he went to mail more envelopes later that month, he noticed a lock on the mailbox. Post office officials told the grandson that the facility had recently experienced many thefts from the locked mailbox.
