La Cañada Sits Unbeaten Atop League Standings

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team defeated host Temple City 87-59 in a Rio Hondo League game on Jan. 19 as Anders Petersen racked up 26 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Josh Proctor finished with 19 points, two rebounds and one steal, while captain Jack Reynolds contributed 12 points, eight assists, four rebounds and one steal. Saad Bangash produced eight points, one rebound and one assist, Maddox Freeman tallied six assists, five points, three steals and one rebound, and Matthew Plocher chipped in six points. Shervin Naini registered five points and one rebound, while Julian Morillo recorded nine rebounds and two points. Jensen Karlich notched two points and one rebound, while Jaidon Gupta scored two points. Greyson Torres collected three rebounds, two assists and one steal, Matthew Herrick had two rebounds, and Diyon Silva was created with one assist and one rebound.
The Spartans secured a 55-50 league victory over visiting San Marino on Jan. 17 as Proctor posted a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist.
Reynolds recorded 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Plocher finished with nine points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal. Josh Pastor tallied eight points, three steals and three rebounds, while Petersen registered seven points, four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Dhilon Gupta chipped in five points and two rebounds, while Freeman collected two rebounds and one assist.
La Cañada (14-9 overall, 6-0 in league) will host Monrovia for a league game on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. before hosting El Camino Real High of Woodland Hills for a nonleague game on Jan. 27.

FLINTRIDGE PREP

Flintridge Prep junior Lawson Holland scored a game high 17 points to help the Wolves beat Polytechnic in a Prep League game on Jan 16

The Wolves traveled to rival Pasadena Polytechnic and won the Prep League showdown with a score of 45-36 on Jan. 16.
“Both teams competed hard. I thought we didn’t play great because we had a long layoff but I thought we made enough plays to win,” Flintridge Prep coach Robert Cartwright said. “I was happy with the defensive effort, we need to work on some things offensively but, no matter how it looks, whenever you can come in and win a rivalry game in league, especially on the road, you’ll take the ‘w’ anyway you can.”
Junior Lawson Holland poured in a game-high 17 points, while senior captain Henry Morrison scored 13 points. Senior captain Steven Ng finished with seven points, senior Noah Willingham and sophomore Owen Willingham each chipped in three points, and senior captain William Bigby had two points.
Flintridge Prep Wolves defeated host Rio Hondo Prep in Arcadia 82-57 in a league game on Jan. 19.
Holland amassed 34 points, Morrison scored 24 points and Ng recorded 15 points.
The Wolves narrowly lost at Providence High in Burbank 69-67 in a league game on Jan. 18.
Holland racked up 24 points, while Morrison contributed 21 points. Bigby poured in 11 points, Ng registered eight points and Noah Willingham had three points.
Flintridge Prep (17-5, 4-1) will visit Bernstein High in Hollywood for a league game on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. before hosting Polytechnic for its regular-season finale on Feb. 1.

St Francis High School junior Ben OConnor contributed six points and three rebounds to help the Golden Knights beat Colony High in a nonleague matchup on Jan 20

The Golden Knights defeated host Colony High in Ontario 72-49 in a nonleague game on Jan. 20.
Junior captain Mazi Mosley poured in 17 points with six assists, five rebounds and one steal, while junior Joe Hickey registered 13 points and two rebounds. Sophomore captain Delan Grant tallied nine points, three rebounds and three assists, while senior Ethan Childs recorded eight points, three rebounds and one assist. Junior Aaron Matthews produced six points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist, while junior Ben O’Connor contributed six points, three rebounds and one assist. Senior Chris Kalachian chipped in three points, three rebounds and three assists, junior Ryan Smith registered three points, two steals, one block and one rebound, and junior Dyllen Domingo notched three points, two rebounds and two assists. Senior Kennedy Mitchell-Egbo was credited with three rebounds, two points, one block and one assist, while junior Noah Henry had two points, two assists and one rebound.
St. Francis secured a narrow 47-45 Mission League victory over visiting Alemany High of Mission Hills on Jan. 19 as Mosley registered 19 points, seven rebounds, three steals, three assists and one block.
Henry finished with eight points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist, Childs recorded five points and four rebounds, and O’Connor chipped in five points, one rebound and one assist. Hickey registered four points, one rebound and one assist, while Kalachian scored four points. Mitchell-Egbo contributed three rebounds, two points, two blocks and one steal, while Grant collected four rebounds and four assists.
The Golden Knights lost at Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth 65-42 in a nonleague game on Jan. 17 as Mosley finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and one block.
Henry tallied seven points, four rebounds and one steal, Kalachian registered five points, two rebounds and one assist, and Mitchell-Egbo recorded four points and four rebounds. Childs produced five rebounds, three points, two steals, two assists and one block, while Domingo contributed three points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist. Grant chipped in two points, two rebounds and one assist, while Hickey had two points, one steal and one rebound.
St. Francis (17-8, 2-3) will visit Harvard-Westlake High in Studio City for a league game on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. before competing in the Mission League Tournament, which starts on Jan. 29.
