Lacrosse: Spartan Boys, Girls Look to Rebound

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ lacrosse team lost at Saugus 12-4 in a nonleague game on Feb. 23.
Freshman Julie Chien scored two goals, freshman Mina Canaday finished with four ground balls and one goal, and junior Maddie McClure chipped in one goal and one assist. Sophomore Gretchen Louie racked up 17 saves, while freshman Hana Valderhaug collected four ground balls. Freshman Nicole Otieno tallied three ground balls, junior Darlene Perez, sophomore Madison Hunt, freshman Karis Wilcox and freshman Isabella Bradford each had two ground balls, and sophomore Rachel Herrick was credited with one assist.
The Spartans (1-1 overall) will visit Village Christian High in Sun Valley for a nonleague game on March 4 at 3 p.m. before hosting Lynwood on March 6.


BOYS’ LACROSSE
The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team lost to visiting Grace Brethern High of Simi Valley 16-11 in a nonleague game on Feb. 23. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Spartans lost to visiting Royal High of Simi Valley 12-10 in a nonleague game on Feb. 20.
Senior Dylan Jeffries scored four goals, senior Keshav Fernando and junior Finn Valderhaug each chipped in two goals, and junior Einstein Shin and sophomore Zach Torres each tallied one goal. Junior Kai Gundersen made four saves, while sophomore Phillip Markgraf had two saves.
La Cañada (2-2) will visit Chaminade High in West Hills for a nonleague game on Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Simi Valley High on March 1.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights suffered a 19-1 loss at St. Margaret’s High in San Juan Capistrano on Feb. 23.
Junior Myles Henry registered one goal and three ground balls, while sophomore Quinn Montenegro was credited with one assist. Junior Carlo Binda tallied 12 saves, while junior Dylan Allen made five saves. Junior Ezekiel Peraza recorded three ground balls, seniors Ryan James and Jayden Siques each collected two ground balls, and senior Dustin Bell, senior Joseph Sonner, junior Carter Randall, junior Isaac Fajardo, junior Koji Inaba and sophomore Alec Heberger each had one ground ball.
St. Francis secured a 12-7 nonleague victory over visiting Palos Verdes on Feb. 20 as junior Axel Gonzalez finished with three goals, two ground balls and one assist.
Siques and Peraza each registered two goals, two assists and two ground balls, while junior Eric Garbo and Myles Henry each produced two goals, one assist and one ground ball. Binda recorded 13 saves and one ground ball, while James produced five ground balls. Senior Aidan Heberger, junior Diego Montes, freshman Dawson Henry, Alec Heberger, Fajardo and Bell each had two ground balls, while Sonner contributed one assist and one ground ball. Junior Valentino Notaro scored one goal, while Allen had one save.
St. Francis (3-1 overall) will visit Saint Francis High in Mountain View for a nonleague game on Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose on March 2.
