Boys’ Volleyball: La Cañada Tops Arcadia for Tournament Crown

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ volleyball team defeated Arcadia, 25-21, to win the San Gabriel Tournament on March 9, as junior Quest Swan registered eight kills and two digs.
Senior Zach Evans finished with three kills, two blocks and one dig, sophomore Albert Cho tallied eight digs and one assist, and senior Jared Yang recorded seven assists and two digs. Junior Jacob Que was credited with six assists, two kills, two digs and one block, while sophomore Riley Vencatachellum produced one kill, one ace and one dig. Senior Parker Petroc collected two digs, while sophomore Tyler Chua had one dig.
The Spartans swept Norwalk, 25-8, 25-21, in a tournament match on March 9.
Swan registered five kills, four digs and one block, Que contributed five assists, five digs, four kills, two blocks and one ace, and Evans produced four kills, three blocks and two digs. Yang was credited with seven assists, four digs and one kill, Cho recorded seven digs, two aces and two assists, and senior Mason O’Brien tallied six blocks and one dig. Vencatachellum finished with one kill, one ace, one block and one dig, while Chua chipped in one kill. Petroc had one dig, while junior Jeffrey Hickman collected one block.
La Cañada defeated Diamond Ranch High of Pomona in three games, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22, in a tournament match on March 9.
Evans registered 12 kills, two digs and one block, while Swan tallied 10 kills, five digs and one ace. Yang was credited with 16 assists, eight digs and one ace, while Que contributed 13 assists, six digs, four aces and three kills. Petroc produced four kills, four digs and one ace, while Vencatachellum recorded three kills and three digs. Cho finished with six digs, three assists and two aces, while Hickman chipped in one kill, one block and one dig. Chua collected two digs and one kill, while O’Brien had one kill and one dig.
The Spartans swept Sierra Vista High of Baldwin Park, 25-13, 25-21, in their tournament opener on March 9.
Yang contributed 11 assists, four digs, one kill and one ace, while Que finished with 10 assists, nine digs, seven kills and one ace. Evans tallied eight kills and one dig, Swan produced seven kills, seven digs, one assist and one ace, and Vencatachellum recorded five kills and one dig. O’Brien registered three kills and one dig, Cho was credited with nine assists and six digs, and Petroc had four digs and one ace.
La Cañada was swept at Paraclete High in Lancaster, 15-25, 12-25, 17-25, in a nonleague match on March 7.
Yang produced 12 assists and four digs, while Swan contributed six kills, three digs and one block. Petroc tallied six digs and three kills, Evans chipped in three kills, two digs and one block, and Que finished with three digs, two kills, two aces and one assist. Cho recorded six digs and two assists, while Hickman had one kill and one dig. Vencatachellum registered one ace and one dig, while O’Brien had one block.
The Spartans defeated visiting Whittier in four games, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19, in a nonleague match on March 5.
Evans finished with 17 kills, two blocks and two assists, while Swan racked up 14 kills, 14 digs, two aces, one assist and one block. Yang registered 15 assists, 12 digs and one kill, Que tallied 16 assists, 10 digs, nine kills and one block, and Cho contributed 10 digs, seven assists and four aces. Vencatachellum produced five digs, two blocks, one kill and one assist, while Petroc recorded six digs and three aces. O’Brien had two kills, two blocks, two assists and two digs, while Chua chipped in one kill and one block.
La Cañada (6-3 overall) will host Arcadia for a nonleague match on March 19 at 5 p.m. before visiting Monrovia for a Rio Hondo League contest on March 21.

FLINTRIDGE PREP
The Wolves lost in four games to visiting San Marino, 25-20, 18-25, 17-25, 20-25, in a nonleague match on March 8.
Sophomore Kyle Yun registered 10 digs, 11 kills, three aces and one block, while freshman Nicholas Smith finished with 11 kills, five digs, one ace and one block. Sophomore Dylan Choi contributed eight digs, five kills and two blocks, senior Warren Nam recorded 10 digs, two kills and one block, and senior Roderick Liu produced 14 digs and one kill. Freshman Milo Shin tallied seven digs and one ace, senior Preston Chen was credited with five digs, one kill and one ace, and junior Anthony Chang had one kill.
Flintridge Prep swept host Trinity Classical Academy of Santa Clarita, 25-22, 25-20, 25-11, in a nonleague match on March 5. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
The Wolves (5-1) will host Rio Hondo Prep of Arcadia for a Prep League match on March 27 at 4:30 p.m. before visiting Providence High in Burbank on March 28.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights swept visiting Temple City, 25-12, 25-14, 25-16, in a nonleague match on March 8.
St. Francis lost in five games to visiting Burroughs High of Burbank, 18-25, 25-16, 25-16, 12-25, 15-12, in a nonleague match on March 6. The Golden Knights lost in four games at Eagle Rock, 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 22-25, in a nonleague match on March 4. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
St. Francis (7-6) will visit Crespi High in Encino for a Mission League match on March 14 at 6 p.m. before hosting St. Joseph High of Santa Maria on March 15.
