Lacrosse: Louie Helps LCHS Hold Off California in Nonleague Battle

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ lacrosse team defeated visiting California High of Whittier 7-5 in a nonleague game on March 21.
Sophomore captain Gretchen Louie recorded six saves, while junior captain Maddie McClure and freshman Keira Miller each chipped in two goals. Freshman Hana Valderhaug finished with one goal and three face-off wins, sophomore Rachel Herrick recorded two ground balls and one assist, and freshman Julie Chien was credited with one assist. Freshman Nicole Otieno won three face-offs, while freshmen Mina Canaday Karis Wilcox and Isabella Bradford each collected two ground balls.
The Spartans lost to visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick 10-4 in their Prep League opener on March 19.
Louie racked up 11 saves, while freshman Julie Chien contributed two goals. Valderhaug and McClure each scored one goal, while Wilcox and Herrick each had one assist.
LCHS (5-7 overall, 0-1 in league) will visit Westridge School in Pasadena for a league game on April 9 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Heritage Christian High of Northridge on April 12.

BOYS’ LACROSSE
The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team lost at Village Christian High in Sun Valley 21-1 in a Gold Coast League game on March 25. The Spartans lost at Brentwood School in Los Angeles 12-2 in a league game on March 21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.

ST. FRANCIS
The Golden Knights defeated host Saugus 14-8 in a nonleague game on March 25. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
St. Francis posted a convincing 17-4 Mission League victory at Chaminade High in West Hills on March 23.
Junior Eric Garbo finished with three goals, three assists and two ground balls, junior Ezekiel Peraza contributed four ground balls, three goals and one assist, and junior Axel Gonzalez racked up five assists and two goals. Juniors Carter Randall and Valentino Notaro each chipped in two goals and one ground ball, sophomores Quinn Montenegro and Joseph Figueroa each scored two goals, and junior Diego Montes had one goal. Junior Carlo Binda produced five saves and one ground ball, while senior Jayden Siques and freshman Kaden Wiebe each tallied two assists and one ground ball. Freshman Dawson Henry recorded four ground balls and one assist, senior Ryan James registered three ground balls and one assist, and junior Cade Asplund was credited with one assist and one ground ball. Senior Dustin Bell and sophomore Alec Heberger each collected three ground balls, while juniors Tyler Hedman and Isaac Fajardo each had one ground ball.
St. Francis lost at Palisades High of Pacific Palisades 13-8 in a nonleague game on March 21.
Gonzalez scored three goals, junior Myles Henry finished with two goals and one ground ball, and senior Joseph Sonner, Notaro and Siques each chipped in one goal. Binda racked up 16 saves, while Fajardo collected three ground balls. Juniors Koji Inaba and William Garabedian each tallied two ground balls, while sophomore Desmond Theis, Dawson Henry, Bell, Garbo, James and Heberger each had one ground ball.
The Golden Knights secured a narrow 6-5 league victory over visiting Crespi High of Encino on March 19 as Binda made 10 saves.
Peraza produced two ground balls, two assists and one goal, while Garbo tallied three ground balls and one goal. Myles Henry, Dawson Henry and Sonner each finished with one goal and one ground ball, while sophomore Dexter Sohn scored one goal. Gonzalez registered three ground balls and one assist, while Bell collected five ground balls. James recorded three ground balls, while Montenegro, Fajardo and Inaba each had one ground ball.
St. Francis (10-5 overall, 5-0 in league) will visit Loyola High in Los Angeles for a league game on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. before hosting San Juan Hills High of San Juan Capistrano on April 12.
