LCHS Graduate Publishes Debut Book

First published in the Jan. 26 print issue of the Outlook Valley Sun.

Charlotte Maya, a longtime La Cañada Flintridge resident who graduated from La Cañada High School, is debuting an intimate, heartbreaking and uplifting book, “Sushi Tuesdays: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Family Resilience.”
Maya’s book features life-changing lessons and can aid those who have experienced loss and who need to move forward and create lives of joy and purpose. It will impact many who have suffered grief, including the ever-growing population of people who have been affected by the suicide of a loved one.
“‘Sushi Tuesdays’ is a story of hope and healing in the face of unspeakable sadness,” said local resident Sam Farmer, who is an award-winning sportswriter for the Los Angeles Times. “With her exquisite writing, unflinching candor and at times wry humor, Charlotte Maya shares her family’s struggle with the abject sorrow of her husband’s suicide and the winding path to recovery. It’s a beautiful and poignant reminder that even in life’s darkest times, daylight is within reach.”
Maya will be featured in a conversation with the Rev. Mike Kinman on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. at All Saints Church in Pasadena. “This book changed me,” Kinman said. “I am deeply grateful for it, and for her.”
She will also be featured in an author’s event Once Upon A Time Bookstore in Montrose on Sunday, March 5, at 1 p.m.
