The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge invites you to its semi-annual Ceramics Show on Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13. The ceramics sale will feature work from 50-plus local ceramic artists and a cadre of artists who study in the ceramics program at the Community Center.

Ann Malmlund

Featured artist ceramics sale will be Ann Malmlund. She has been coming to the center’s ceramics workshops for eight years after retiring from Walt Disney Imagineering where she was an artist for more than 25 years. A few years before retiring, Malmlund saw an article in the newspaper about the center’s ceramics program. She saved that article and promised herself that she would start working in clay the week she retired, and that is exactly what she did. Malmlund has a deep love for flowers and nature’s shapes and textures. She uses them for her sculptural hand built tiles and pots. Malmlund has been a painter all of her life. Lately, she has been painting in the Huntington Library cactus garden as well as her own large drought tolerant garden. She will be showing some of those paintings along with her ceramic sculptures and pots.
“Having Ann as a student here at the Center has been such a pleasure, and Ann has influenced many others in the classes to explore carvings and making flowers and making their own tools to use, said Miriam Balcazar, the ceramics director. “Her work is really conversational pieces.”
The sale will open with an artist reception with light refreshments on Friday, May 12, between 3-8 p.m. The sale will continue on Saturday, May 13, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
“The sale is not only a great place to find unique art made here in our community, but it is also a wonderful way to spend time getting to know the people and the programs offered at the Community Center,” said Executive Director Maureen Bond.
