Spartans Pick Up League Win

The La Cañada varsity girls’ softball team collected a big win on Tuesday by defeating host San Marino, 14-4, in a Rio Hondo League contest.

The Spartans (6-6 overall record) improved to 3-4 in league play and now trail the Titans (5-4 in league) by one game for third place in the standings. Temple City is at the top with an 8-0 record and Monrovia is clinging on to second place with a 4-3 record. 

La Cañada will take on San Marino again this Friday, May 14, at 3:30 p.m.

FSHA 10 / Burbank Providence 3

Faith Blea drove in a team-high three runs and led Flintridge Sacred Heart to a victory over visiting Burbank Providence in a nonleague game on Monday.

Blea also belted a triple and scored three runs during the win, and Victoria Ramirez collected a team-high four hits. Ellie McCarthy contributed two hits and three runs, Maddie Napierala was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Marie Milton finished 2-for-3 with a double, run and an RBI, Lola Low drove in a run and Carly Crossland scored once.

Ramirez picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits and striking out eight in a complete game effort.

The Tologs (7-4 overall, 2-0 in league) will travel to Arcadia to face Rio Hondo Prep in a nonleague contest this Saturday, May 15, at 3 p.m.
