Spanish Artist to Debut Exhibit, Paint Mural at LCHS

The La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Association and the city of La Cañada Flintridge will present the culmination of their inaugural Artist-in-Residence Program by introducing the work of world-renowned Spanish painter Javier Montesol.
Montesol’s first-ever California exhibit, “Miradas — Crossing Glances,” will debut at the historic Boddy House in Descanso Gardens on May 2-3. On Thursday, May 4, more than 60 pieces of original Montesol’s art will be offered for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to LCF sister cities.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a VIP reception. General admission begins at 6:30 p.m. The festive night will include a taste of Spanish culture with flamenco dancers, Spanish music, Spanish wine and light fare. For tickets, sponsorships and more information, visit lcfsistercities.org, or call (818) 434-4999.
Montesol is best known for his iconic paintings of Spanish dancers and depictions of Spanish culture. His work is included in numerous international collections, including Madrid’s Prado Museum, Museo Reina Sofia and in private collections around the world. In fall 2022, the La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Association hosted Montesol and introduced him to the people and
culture of Southern California. He returns to Southern California in April and May to complete two additional projects.
Collaborating with 14 La Cañada High School art students on April 27, Montesol will paint a live large mural in the LCHS courtyard. This “performance art” will be similar to an event commissioned by the National Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona in 2019.
