Spartans Continue to Roll With Sweep of Village Christian

The La Cañada High School varsity girls’ volleyball team swept visiting Village Christian High of Sun Valley, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20, in a nonleague match on Sept. 27.
Junior Ashby Zubchevich racked up a match-high 15 kills with five digs and four aces, while senior Haley Clark contributed 13 kills, four digs, one ace, one block and one assist. Senior Tatum Purdy amassed 29 assists, nine digs, two kills, two blocks and one ace, senior Chloe Nussbaum produced 19 digs, three assists and one ace, and freshman Maya Purdy chipped in eight digs, four aces, two kills, one block and one assist. Senior Emma Reed tallied two kills, two blocks and two digs, while junior Danica Eggleston recorded two aces, two digs and one assist. Sophomore Vani Tatoulian finished with three digs and two blocks, while junior Irelyn Fung had one kill.
The Spartans previously swept a pair of Rio Hondo League matchups at home against Monrovia, 25-11, 25-9, 25-21, and San Marino, 25-15, 25-13, 25-10. Individual statistics were not reported to the Outlook Valley Sun.
LCHS (16-8 overall, 5-0 in league) will host Temple City for a league match on Oct. 5 at 5:30 p.m. before competing in the So Cal Invitational on Oct. 6 and 7.

FLINTRIDGE SACRED HEART

The Tologs swept host Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 25-20, 25-13, 25-12, in an Angeles League showdown on Sept. 28 as senior Mikayla Hsieh racked up 17 digs, nine kills, five aces and one block.
Senior Luisa Madrigal finished with seven kills, seven digs and one ace, while junior Piper Scherbert contributed seven kills, three digs and two blocks. Sophomore Grace McCarthy produced five kills, five digs and one ace, while senior Veronica Udell chipped in five kills and three digs. Junior Ally Du registered 19 assists, 12 digs and two aces, freshman Allexa Valencia tallied 11 assists and eight digs, and senior Lindsey Du recorded 10 digs, four assists and one ace. Sophomore Alexandra Carr was credited with three digs and two kills, while junior Sophia Astacaan tallied one kill and one dig. Sophomore Grace Savarese had one kill, while senior Pia Costanzo had one dig.
FSHA swept visiting Louisville High of Woodland Hills, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, in a league matchup on Sept. 26.
Hsieh chipped in 18 digs, 15 kills and two aces, Madrigal racked up 21 digs, eight kills, two aces and one block, and Grace McCarthy tallied six kills, five aces, three digs and one block. Ally Du contributed 23 assists, three digs and one ace, Lindsey Du produced 15 digs, two aces and two assists, and Valencia finished with 10 assists and three digs. Carr was credited with three digs and two kills while Udell recorded three digs, one kill and one block. Astacaan registered two kills, freshman Clare McCarthy notched one kill and freshman Sophia Wright had one dig.
Second-place FSHA (14-12, 4-1) will compete in the the 20th annual Southern California Invitational in San Diego on Oct. 6 and 7 before resuming league action against first-place Chaminade High of West Hills at home on Oct. 9.

The Wolves defeated Gahr High of Cerritos, 25-12, in their Cuong Chau Tournament finale on Sept. 30 to finish with a 5-1 record.
Ashlyn Nam finished with 10 assists and one dig, Abbie Callaway recorded four kills and three digs, and Jessica Powell chipped in three kills. Clara Bassuk tallied two kills and one dig while Makayla Jones produced one kill and one block. Marissa Halley registered three digs, while Jaleen Tseng had two digs and an ace.
Flintridge Prep lost to Otay Ranch High of Chula Vista, 15-25, in a tournament matchup as Abbie Callaway finished with four kills, three digs and one block.
Ava Burlingame tallied four digs, Tseng contributed three digs and an ace, and Nam had one block.
The Wolves picked up a convincing 25-10 tournament victory over Poly High of Sun Valley.
Nam racked up 14 assists, two aces and two digs, while Abbie Callaway tallied seven kills and one dig. Powell recorded three kills, while Jones chipped in two kills. Halley produced six digs, while Tseng had five digs.
Flintridge Prep picked up a tournament victory over Walnut in three games, 25-13, 21-25, 15-13, as Abbie Callaway racked up 18 kills, 11 digs, one block and one ace.
Nam amassed 29 assists, six digs, three aces and one block, Halley produced 12 digs and Tseng contributed 11 digs. Powell finished with six kills and one block while Jones tallied three kills, two blocks and two digs.
The Wolves swept Bassett High of La Puente, 25-12, 25-16, in a tournament match.
Abbie Callaway tallied eight digs, five kills and two aces while Halley recorded nine digs and two aces. Tseng produced eight digs and two aces, Bassuk finished with six kills and two digs, and Powell contributed five kills and three digs.
Flintridge Prep opened tournament action by sweeping Maywood CES, 25-11, 25-17, as Abbie Callaway racked up 13 kills and one dig.
Powell tallied 10 kills, Halley collected 11 digs and three aces, and Natalia Pradhan, Bassuk and Jones each had four kills.
The Wolves defeated visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick in four games, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 26-24, in a Prep League contest on Sept. 28.
Abbie Callaway racked up 22 kills and 10 digs, Powell contributed 22 kills and one block, and Jones tallied 12 kills and two blocks. Nam amassed 53 assists, six digs and one ace, Halley recorded 25 digs and one ace, and Tseng finished with 15 digs and ace. Burlingame had seven digs, Frankie Callaway collected four digs, three kills and two blocks, and Lucy Liu chipped in two blocks and one ace.
The Wolves lost to visiting Polytechnic in five games, 25-23, 13-25, 12-25, 25-19, 9-15, in a league matchup on Sept. 26.
Abbie Callaway contributed 15 digs, 10 kills, three aces and two blocks, while Powell recorded 10 kills and three blocks. Jones produced nine kills and two blocks, Halley finished with 16 digs and one ace, and Nam had three kills and one ace.
Fourth-place Flintridge Prep (17-7, 5-5) will conclude the regular season at Providence High in Burbank on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.
